This page gives you ready-to-use study questions for 2 Chronicles 2, the chapter where Solomon organizes labor and materials for the temple and writes to King Huram of Tyre. The questions are built for a small group, a Sunday class, or personal study, with a leader’s answer or discussion note under each one so you can guide the conversation without preparing from scratch.

2 Chronicles 2 at a Glance

Solomon decides to build a house for the LORD’s name and a house for his own kingdom. He assembles a large workforce of laborers, stone cutters and overseers, then sends a letter to Huram, king of Tyre, asking for skilled craftsmen and cedar timber from Lebanon, and offering food and oil in return.

Huram responds with praise for the God of Israel and agrees to send both timber and a master craftsman. The chapter ends with Solomon’s census of the foreigners in Israel and the assignment of workers to their tasks. Read it as a movement from planning, to request, to answer, to organizing the work.

Observation Questions

Use these questions first to make sure the group has read the text carefully before anyone offers an interpretation. Ask people to point to the verse that supports each answer, and keep the answers concrete and close to the words on the page.

2 Chronicles 2:1

Now Solomon decided to build a house for the LORD’s name, and a house for his kingdom.

(WEB)

This verse sets the purpose of the whole chapter, so reading it first gives the group a clear starting point. Ask what Solomon’s two buildings reveal about his priorities.

2 Chronicles 2:6

But who is able to build him a house, since heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain him? Who am I then, that I should build him a house, except just to burn incense before him?

(WEB)

Solomon’s admission that God cannot be contained by heaven is a central theological statement in the chapter. Read it slowly and ask the group to consider why it matters.

2 Chronicles 2:11

Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, “Because the LORD loves his people, he has made you king over them.”

(WEB)

Huram’s written reply gives a foreign king’s testimony about the LORD’s love for his people. Reading it aloud lets the group hear an outside voice affirming Israel’s God.

2 Chronicles 2:12

Huram continued, “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endowed with discretion and understanding, who would build a house for the LORD, and a house for his kingdom.

(WEB)

This blessing from Huram names the LORD as Creator and as the God who gave David a wise son. It works well as a prompt for the group to name what they praise God for.

2 Chronicles 2:18

He set seventy thousand of them to bear burdens, eighty thousand who were stone cutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred overseers to assign the people their work.

(WEB)

The chapter closes with the assignment of foreign workers to real tasks. Reading it aloud helps the group end the session thinking about how work and worship connect.

Memory Verse for 2 Chronicles 2

A Closing Prayer for the Group

Father, we come to you as people who want to build our lives around your name. Thank you that you are greater than any house we could make and yet you invite us to meet with you. Teach us to offer our skills and our time to your work, even when the task seems small or ordinary. Help us to recognize your goodness in the people and places we did not expect, and to receive their help with humility. Give us rhythms of worship that carry us through the week, and let our community open its doors to those who have been overlooked. Keep our hearts steady and our hands willing, for the sake of your name. Amen.
