This lesson teaches children that God is near and ready to help right now, and that they can live as His friends even when life is hard. It is designed for children ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes to teach. You can use it in Sunday school, a small group, or at home.

Big Idea

God is always ready to help us, so we can trust Him today. We can show His love to others, even when things are difficult, because He never stops caring for us.

Memory Verse

2 Corinthians 6:2

For he says, “At an acceptable time I listened to you, in a day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is the acceptable time. Behold, now is the day of salvation.

Put one hand on your heart and then lift both hands up high, like you are reaching toward the sky. Say “now” with a big smile as you lift your hands. Do this each time you say the verse together so the children remember that God helps us now.

The Story: 2 Corinthians 6 for Kids

Paul was a teacher who loved the people in the city of Corinth. He wanted them to know that God’s gift of grace is real and that they should not waste it. Paul told them that God had listened to them and helped them when they needed Him. Paul said, “Now is the time to trust God.” He was pointing them toward God’s help that was ready for them that very day.

Paul did not have an easy life. He faced many hard things, like being beaten, put in prison, and going without food for a while. Yet Paul kept loving God and keeping his heart focused on Jesus. He did not let the hard times stop him from doing what was right. He wanted his life to show people who God is, so he tried to live honestly and kindly.

Paul told the Corinthians that they should not be yoked together with people who turn away from God. A yoke is a wooden frame that holds two animals together so they can pull a load side by side. Paul was saying that friends who pull you away from God are not the best partners for your heart. He wanted the people to stay close to what was good and true.

Paul reminded them that they were like a temple where God lives. God had promised to live with His people and to be their God. Paul told them that they were God’s own people, so they should come out from things that were not good and keep themselves clean. God said He would welcome them like a loving Father welcomes His children.

When you hear this story, tell the children that God is kind, strong, and faithful. He is still at work in our lives today, just as He was in Paul’s time. Remind them that God wants us to walk with Him and be a light to the people around us.

Read It Together

2 Corinthians 6:4-5

4 But in everything commending ourselves, as servants of God, in great endurance, in afflictions, in hardships, in distresses, 5 in beatings, in imprisonments, in riots, in labors, in watchings, in fastings…

(WEB)

Point out that Paul faced many hard things, like beatings and being put in prison. Ask the children how they think Paul kept going during those times. Explain that he kept his eyes on God and trusted Him to be with him in every situation.

2 Corinthians 6:14

Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

(WEB)

Explain that a yoke means two things pulling together. Help the children see that the friends we choose can either help us grow closer to God or pull us away from Him. Encourage them to think about who they spend time with.

2 Corinthians 6:16

What agreement has a temple of God with idols? For you are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, “I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

(WEB)

Show the children that God lives with His people and wants to be close to them. Explain that this means God is always with them, so they never have to be alone. Let them know that God cares about everything they do.

Talk About It

  • What is one thing God has done for you that you are thankful for?
  • How can you tell that God is always ready to help you?
  • What are some hard things you might face, and how can you trust God with them?
  • Who are some friends who help you grow closer to God, and how do they do that?
  • How can you show God’s love to someone who needs it today?

Activity Ideas

Heart and Sky Drawing

You will need paper, crayons or markers, and tape. Ask each child to draw a big heart in the center of the paper and then draw a sun or a sky around it. Have them write or draw one way God helps them. Tape the pictures on the wall as a reminder that God is always near.

Reaching for the Sky Game

Gather the children in an open space. Call out a hard thing, like “feeling scared,” and have the children stretch their hands up toward the sky while saying “God is with me now.” Then call out another hard thing and repeat. This helps children move their bodies while remembering that God is always present.

Take-Home Friend Card

Give each child a folded piece of paper and a pencil. Ask them to write or draw a friend who helps them love God. They can take the card home and give it to that friend or keep it on their bed as a reminder to pray for them. Encourage them to share what they learned in class with their family.

Teacher Notes

For adults, this passage shows that God’s help is available now and that faith should shape how we live, even under pressure. Paul’s life was marked by hardship, yet he kept focusing on God’s faithfulness. The passage also reminds believers to choose close friendships carefully and to see themselves as a place where God dwells.

Avoid suggesting that God will remove every difficulty from a child’s life if they simply trust Him. Children may misunderstand this and feel guilty when hard things happen anyway. Instead, emphasize that God is with them in every situation and that He cares deeply about them.

A Prayer to Close

Dear God, thank You that You are near to us every day. Help us to trust You with everything we face, big or small. Please help us choose good friends and show Your love to others. We love You, and we know You love us too. Amen.
