This list gathers Bible passages about angels for readers who want to know what Scripture says about these heavenly messengers, how they serve God, and what their presence means for ordinary believers. It is meant for anyone curious about angels, anxious about spiritual danger, or simply wanting to read more carefully. The passages here share one common thread: angels are servants of God, sent to carry out his purposes and to care for the people he loves.

Verses on Angels as God’s Messengers

The Bible often describes angels as the ones who carry news from heaven to earth. Read these first to see how consistently Scripture presents them as sent by God rather than acting on their own authority.

Hebrews 1:14

Aren’t they all serving spirits, sent out to do service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?

(WEB)

This verse describes angels as spirits sent to serve people who will inherit salvation. When you read it, notice the word “serve.” Try naming one person this week whose good you could quietly work toward, the way these unseen servants do.

Luke 1:26-27

26 Now in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man whose name was Joseph, of David’s house. The virgin’s name was Mary.

(WEB)

Here an angel is sent with a message to a young woman in Nazareth, a setting that was ordinary and far from power. Think about the ordinary place where God might meet you today, and pray that you would notice it when he does.

Matthew 1:20-21

20 But when he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take to yourself Mary, your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 She shall give birth to a son. You shall call his name Jesus, for it is he who shall save his people from their sins.”

(WEB)

An angel speaks to Joseph in a dream, reassuring him and giving him his task. If you face a decision you do not understand, ask God for clarity, then write down the next faithful step before you sleep.

Luke 2:10-11

10 The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people. 11 For there is born to you today, in David’s city, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

(WEB)

The angel brings good news to shepherds working through the night. Let this verse shape how you share faith with a friend this week: bring good news plainly, without hurry or fear.

Verses on Angels Guarding and Protecting

Scripture also speaks of angels as guardians, watching over God’s people in ways we often cannot see. These passages are especially helpful when you feel unsafe or overwhelmed.

Psalm 91:11

For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

(WEB)

This psalm promises that God gives his angels charge over those who trust him. When fear rises at night, speak this verse aloud as a reminder that your protection rests in God’s care, not in your own vigilance.

Psalm 34:7

The LORD’s angel encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

(WEB)

The psalmist describes an angel encamped around those who fear the Lord. Picture this when you walk into a difficult room, such as a hospital corridor or a tense family gathering, and let it steady your breathing.

Daniel 6:22

My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.”

(WEB)

Daniel is delivered from the lions because God sends his angel to shut their mouths. Remember this story when you feel trapped by circumstances you cannot control, and offer God the situation as Daniel did.

2 Kings 6:16-17

16 He answered, “Don’t be afraid; for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 Elisha prayed, and said, “The LORD, please open his eyes, that he may see.” The LORD opened the young man’s eyes; and he saw: and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha.

(WEB)

Elisha’s servant sees the armies of heaven only after Elisha prays for his eyes to be opened. Ask God today to open your eyes to the help already present around you, especially when you feel alone.

Verses on Angels Worshiping God

Angels are not only messengers and guardians; Scripture also shows them worshiping and praising God. These verses turn your attention toward the greatness of God and invite you to join the praise.

Revelation 5:11-12

11 I saw, and I heard something like a voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousands of ten thousands, and thousands of thousands; 12 saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who has been killed to receive the power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing!”

(WEB)

John hears countless angels around the throne singing about the worthiness of the Lamb. When your own worship feels thin, sing one line of a hymn slowly, imagining your voice joining that vast chorus.

Isaiah 6:2-3

2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each one had six wings. With two he covered his face. With two he covered his feet. With two he flew. 3 One called to another, and said, “Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of Armies! The whole earth is full of his glory!”

(WEB)

Isaiah sees seraphim calling out the holiness of the Lord. Begin your prayer time this week by saying God’s holiness out loud before you bring him any request.

Psalm 148:2

Praise him, all his angels! Praise him, all his army!

(WEB)

The psalm calls all his angels and all his hosts to praise the Lord. Use this verse to start your morning prayer, inviting the whole created order, unseen and seen, to join you in giving thanks.

Hebrews 12:22

But you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable multitudes of angels…

(WEB)

This verse places believers in the company of countless angels gathered in festal assembly. Remember this when you gather with your church, understanding that you are not alone in worship.

Revelation 7:11-12

11 All the angels were standing around the throne, the elders, and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before his throne, and worshiped God, 12 saying, “Amen! Blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might, be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

(WEB)

Angels fall on their faces before the throne, giving God honor, glory and thanks. Let this picture of humble worship guide you to kneel or bow your head in prayer today, even if only in your heart.

How to Use These Verses

Begin by choosing one or two passages that speak to your current season, rather than trying to memorize the whole list at once. Write the references on an index card and keep it in your wallet, on your bathroom mirror, or beside your Bible so you see them during the day. Reading slowly, once aloud and once in silence, helps the words settle into your memory.

When you pray with these verses, let them shape your requests rather than simply decorate them. If you read Psalm 91:11 during a worried moment, pray specifically for the person or situation you are concerned about, and thank God for the care he has already promised. Return to the same passage for several days; repetition is one of the most faithful ways Scripture forms trust in you over time.

A Short Prayer for Angels

Lord, thank you for the ways you care for your people, including the unseen servants you send to serve, guard and praise you. I confess that I often forget how near you are, and how many forces stand ready at your command. Open my eyes, as you opened the eyes of Elisha’s servant, so that I can see your help and trust your protection. Teach me to join the worship that rises around your throne, and let my ordinary days reflect your goodness. Amen.
