Morning Prayers for My Sister

This morning prayer is for your sister, for the day ahead of her and the people and tasks she will meet before evening. Pray it first thing, while the house is still quiet, or in the car before she leaves for work or school. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words about the things weighing on her.

Morning Prayers for My Sister

Lord, thank you for this new morning. Before she has checked her phone or thought about the first meeting, the first call, or the first hard conversation, I bring her to you. You know her day better than she does. You already know the deadline that worries her, the friend she has not heard from in weeks, and the question about money or health she has been carrying at night. Be with her in each of those places before she reaches them.

Give her a steady heart this morning. If she wakes anxious, quiet her thoughts and remind her that you are awake and near. If she wakes tired, give her strength that does not depend on how well she slept. Help her to be patient with the people she loves, especially the ones who make ordinary days harder. Let her words be kind and her decisions be wise, and where she feels she has nothing left to give, let her find that you are enough.

Father, I ask you to go ahead of her into the day. Open the doors that should open and close the ones that should stay shut. Protect her on the road, at her work, and in every room where she will speak or listen. Let her know, at some point before evening, that she is loved and not alone. Thank you that you hear this prayer, and that you will keep watch over her when I am not there. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my sister is starting her day, and I ask you to meet her in it. Calm what is anxious, strengthen what is weak, and give her patience for the people she will see. Go before her to every task and conversation, and let her feel your nearness when things get hard. Keep her safe and let her rest in you. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray this prayer while your sister is still getting ready, or in the minutes before she opens her messages. If you can, write her name at the top of a note on your phone or in a journal, and keep it where you will see it through the day. Some people find it helpful to pray with their hands open on their lap, a small reminder that they are placing the day into God’s care rather than gripping it.

If you live with her or see her often, you might pray it together over coffee or during a short walk. If you are far away, you can pray it at the same time each morning and send her a short message afterward, something simple like “I prayed for you this morning.” Other people who love her can join in too, and their voices may carry the prayer further than yours alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before your sister into this day and walk beside her through every hour. May he give her courage for what is hard, rest for what is weary, and kindness for the people she meets. May she know, in quiet moments, that she is held and seen by the God who loves her. The Lord bless her and keep her, and make his face shine on her today.
