This list gives you Bible verses to read when you feel alone, whether you are in a crowded room, a quiet house, or a season where the people you expected to be near have drifted away. Each entry names the kind of loneliness it speaks to and suggests one simple way to carry the verse through the day.

The verses share a common thread: God is present with you even when no one else is. They speak of his nearness, his faithfulness, and his willingness to act on behalf of people who feel forgotten.

Verses for the Quiet Morning When No One Has Texted

Some loneliness arrives before the day has properly begun, in the stillness after you wake and the silence of a phone that has not lit up. These verses are for that first hour, when the mind is most likely to reach for worry.

Psalm 139:7-10

7 Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, you are there! 9 If I take the wings of the dawn, and settle in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me.

The psalmist asks where he could go to escape God and finds that there is no place beyond his reach. Before you look at your phone, say the psalm slowly once and then name one place you are sitting right now, your kitchen chair or your bed, as a place where God is already present with you.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses speaks these words to Israel as they face a future without him, and the promise is that the Lord goes with them. Write the phrase “he will never leave you” on a sticky note and place it where your eyes land first when you get up.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Lamentations is a book of grief, yet in its middle it turns to the faithfulness of God that starts afresh each morning. When loneliness feels endless, read this as a reminder that today’s mercy is new, and ask God for the mercy you need for just this one day.

Verses for Evenings Spent Alone in a Crowded World

Loneliness can be most painful after work, after the family has gone to bed, or when a group of friends is laughing somewhere you are not. These verses speak to the hours when you are awake and alone with your thoughts.

Psalm 27:1

The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

(WEB)

David names the Lord as his light and his stronghold, which places God at the center of his fear rather than at its edge. Try speaking this verse aloud as you turn off the lights, naming one fear you are carrying to bed and handing it to the Lord by name.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

God tells his people not to be dismayed, because he is their God and will strengthen them. On a lonely evening, notice that the verse speaks in the first person of God’s own voice, and let that voice be the one you hear before sleep.

Matthew 28:20

Teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

(WEB)

Jesus closes Matthew’s gospel with a promise to be with his disciples to the very end of the age. Remember that this promise was made to people who would soon be scattered and afraid, and tell him, in a sentence, where you feel most alone tonight.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. If your loneliness has a heaviness to it, take this verse as a description of God’s posture toward you, and let one tear or one sigh count as an opening for prayer.

Verses for Seasons When Friends Feel Far Away

Sometimes the loneliness is not about a single moment but a long stretch of distance, from a move, a separation, or friendships that have changed. These verses speak to those longer seasons.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

(WEB)

Even in the darkest valley, the psalmist says he will fear no evil because the Lord is with him. When you feel far from people, picture the shepherd walking beside you and say the words “you are with me” each time you pass a window or a door.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Paul lists the powers and circumstances that cannot separate believers from the love of God, ending with creation itself. Choose one item from his list that feels like a loss in your life and say aloud that it cannot cut you off from God’s love.

Hebrews 13:5

Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, “I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.”

(WEB)

The writer urges believers to keep their lives free from the love of money and to be content, because God has said he will never leave or forsake them. Use this verse as a check when you are tempted to fill loneliness with things, asking whether God’s presence would be enough right now.

Psalm 68:6

God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing, but the rebellious dwell in a sun-scorched land.

(WEB)

God is described as one who sets the lonely in families, a picture of restored belonging. Let this verse become a prayer for a real community, and consider one small step, a message or a visit, that could move you toward the family God is building.

John 14:18

I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you.

(WEB)

Jesus tells his disciples he will not leave them as orphans but will come to them. Speak these words back to him in the car or on the walk home, and tell him you are receiving the coming he promised.

How to Use These Verses

Write two or three of these verses on a card and keep it in your wallet, on your bathroom mirror, or as your phone’s lock screen. Repetition helps a verse travel from the page into the moments when loneliness is loudest, so choose the one that fits your current season and return to it often.

Pray the verses instead of only reading them. Turn a line like “the Lord is near to the brokenhearted” into a sentence addressed to God, such as “Lord, be near to me now.” Ask him to show you one person or one small kindness that could speak his nearness through someone else.

A Short Prayer for When You Feel Alone

Lord, you know the quiet places I am sitting in today, and you know the names of the people I miss. Thank you that you have not left me, and that your presence reaches into rooms no one else can enter. Help me to rest in your nearness, to hear your voice in these words, and to trust that you are with me in every hour. Gather people around me in your time, and keep my heart open to the love you are already pouring out. Amen.
