This list gives you short Bible verses you can read, share or write on a card for Mother’s Day, whether you are honoring your own mother, celebrating as a mother yourself, or remembering a mother who has died. Each verse is brief enough to memorize in an afternoon. What they share is a steady focus on God’s faithfulness, patience and love, which are the qualities mothers often show to their children and which we most need to receive from God ourselves.

Verses of Gratitude for the Mothers in Your Life

Gratitude is a natural place to begin on Mother’s Day. These verses turn your thanks toward God, who gave you the people who shaped you, and they give you words when a simple card feels too small.

Psalm 107:1

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

(WEB)

Thanksgiving here is a plain command, not a feeling you must manufacture. Try naming one specific thing your mother did for you, then say this verse over it as a short prayer before you call or visit her.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.

(WEB)

Paul ties thankfulness to the whole shape of life, including the hard seasons a mother may have walked through. Write down three things about your mother you are grateful for, and keep the list where you will see it on the day.

Psalm 100:4

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name.

(WEB)

This verse invites you into God’s presence with thanks already on your lips. Before you give a gift or write a note, pause and offer thanks to God for the woman who raised you or the children who call you Mom.

Verses for the Weary Mother at the End of the Day

Motherhood is often tiring in ways no one sees. These verses speak to the exhaustion, the worry and the quiet doubts that come late at night, reminding you that God does not grow tired.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes strength that comes from waiting on the Lord rather than from our own reserves. When your energy is gone, set a timer for two minutes of stillness and say the verse slowly, letting its promise of renewal settle in.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks to people who are carrying too much, and mothers carry a great deal. Imagine bringing one specific burden to him tonight, whether a child’s struggle or a long to-do list, and leave it with him before you sleep.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

God calls us to stop striving and recognize that he is in control. Put down your phone for one quiet minute after the children are asleep and simply rest in the knowledge that he is God, even when the house is still a mess.

Verses of Trust for a Mother Who Is Worried

Worry can make a mother feel responsible for everything. These verses point you toward the One who loves your children more than you do and who holds every family matter in his hands.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

(WEB)

David admits fear and then chooses trust in the same breath. The next time anxiety rises about a child’s health, school or future, say this verse aloud and name the specific fear you are placing in God’s care.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

(WEB)

Peter invites believers to hand their anxieties over to God because he cares for them. Write your worries on a sheet of paper, pray over each one, and then fold the paper away as a sign you have released them.

Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding.

(WEB)

This verse asks you to trust God with all your heart rather than relying only on your own understanding. When a parenting decision feels impossible, pause, ask for wisdom, and take the next small step with confidence in him.

Verses of Love That Reflect God’s Heart

Mothers are often the first to show children what love looks like. These verses remind you that the love you give comes from a deeper source, and that God’s love for you is steady, personal and unconditional.

1 John 4:19

We love him, because he first loved us.

(WEB)

John says that our love is a response to God having loved us first. Before you hug your child or your mother, remember that the love flowing through you is first received from God, and thank him for it.

Psalm 103:13

Like a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.

(WEB)

The psalmist compares God’s compassion to a father’s tenderness toward his children. Think of one moment when your mother showed you tender care, and let it open your eyes to the deeper compassion God has for you.

Isaiah 49:15

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you!

(WEB)

God asks whether a mother could forget her nursing child, then declares that he will not forget his people. If you are missing a mother who has passed away, or feeling forgotten yourself, let this verse assure you that God’s memory of you is perfect.

Psalm 127:3

Behold, children are a heritage of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is his reward.

(WEB)

The psalm calls children a heritage from the Lord, a gift to be received with gratitude. On Mother’s Day, consider naming one way each of your children has blessed your life, and thank God for entrusting them to you.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses rather than trying to read all twenty at once. Write them on a card for your mother or your children, or put them on a sticky note inside a kitchen cabinet, so the words meet you in ordinary moments like making coffee or folding laundry.

Read the verses slowly in the morning or at bedtime, and pray them back to God in your own words. Many readers find that repeating one short verse through the week does more good than a long reading once a year, because the familiar words gradually shape how they think and speak.

A Short Prayer for Mother’s Day

Lord, thank you for the mothers who loved and cared for us, and for the mothers who are still giving their lives to children today. Some of us feel grateful, some feel tired, and some feel the ache of a loss that has not healed. Meet each of us where we are and remind us that you see every sacrifice made in love. Help us to honor the women in our lives, to rest in your care when we are weary, and to love others the way you have loved us. Amen.
