When you feel tired, the Bible offers verses that speak to weariness of body, mind and spirit, and this list gathers fifteen of them grouped by the moments when exhaustion tends to hit hardest. These verses are for anyone who wakes up already drained, who runs out of patience by midday, or who lies awake at night with a mind that won’t rest. What they share is a picture of God who does not grow weary, who gives strength to those who have none, and who invites the tired to come to him rather than push through alone.

Verses for the Morning When You Wake Up Already Drained

Some mornings the alarm feels like an accusation before the day has even started. These verses address that first moment of heaviness, reminding you that strength is not something you must manufacture before coffee.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes strength renewed rather than strength earned. Before you get out of bed, try naming one small task you can do today and asking God to supply the energy for that one thing alone.

Psalm 5:3

The LORD, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.

(WEB)

David’s habit was to bring his requests to God first thing in the morning. Keep a short note on your nightstand and speak one honest sentence about how you feel before your phone gets the first look.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Even in a book full of grief, this passage insists that God’s mercies are new each morning. When you feel depleted, look for one small mercy in the first hour of your day and thank God for it by name.

Verses for the Afternoon When Your Patience Runs Out

Midday tiredness often shows up as irritability, short replies, and a sense that you are running on fumes. These verses speak to the moments when you are snapping at people you love and wishing the afternoon were over.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks to people who are worn out from carrying too much. When you feel the weight pressing down at work, pause for thirty seconds, close your eyes and repeat his invitation as a prayer.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul writes to believers who are tempted to quit doing good because the work feels endless. Pick the one task that feels most draining and finish only that, trusting that faithfulness is measured over seasons, not single afternoons.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

(WEB)

The psalmist admits that his body and heart are failing, yet he names God as his strength. When your energy is spent, say aloud the truth that God is your portion, even when you have nothing else left to give.

Verses for the Night When Your Mind Won’t Rest

Tiredness at night is different. The body wants sleep, but the mind keeps replaying the day. These verses offer a way to hand over the worries that keep you awake.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

This verse reminds you that God gives sleep to those he loves, and that anxious striving does not earn rest. Before lights out, write down the three things you are most worried about and put the list in a drawer until morning.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

David says he lies down and sleeps in peace because the Lord alone makes him dwell in safety. Try whispering this verse slowly as you lie in bed, letting each phrase slow your breathing.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul’s instruction is to bring every worry to God in prayer and receive a peace that guards the heart. If a particular concern keeps returning, take it to God again in one short sentence rather than rehearsing it in full.

1 Kings 19:5-6

5 He lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and behold, an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat!” 6 He looked, and behold, there was at his head a cake baked on the coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank, and lay down again.

(WEB)

Elijah, exhausted and discouraged, falls asleep and is fed by an angel before he is asked to go on. When you are depleted, let rest and a simple meal come before any decision about what comes next.

Verses for Long Seasons of Weariness

Some tiredness is not a single bad day but a stretch of months, whether from caregiving, illness, grief or a demanding season at work. These verses speak to the kind of fatigue that does not lift quickly.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Paul learned that God’s grace is sufficient even when weakness remains. When you are tired in a way that will not resolve, name the specific weakness to God and ask for grace for that particular day.

Psalm 121:1-2

1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

(WEB)

The psalmist lifts his eyes to the hills and remembers where his help comes from. When the season feels endless, look up at something outside your window and let it remind you that your help is not limited by your energy.

Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered.

(WEB)

Paul says the Spirit helps us in our weakness, especially when we do not know how to pray. On days when you have no words, simply breathe the name of Jesus and trust that the Spirit is interceding for you.

Hebrews 4:9-10

9 There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.

(WEB)

The writer describes a rest that remains for God’s people, a settled ceasing from self-driven effort. Choose one hour this week when you stop trying to fix everything and receive that rest as a gift.

Psalm 62:1

My soul rests in God alone. My salvation is from him.

(WEB)

David says his soul waits in silence for God alone. When you are worn thin, sit quietly for two minutes with nothing to read or do, and let stillness be a form of trust.

How to Use These Verses When You Feel Tired

Verses for tiredness work best when they are close at hand. Write two or three of the ones that speak to you on an index card and tape it to the bathroom mirror, the steering wheel or the fridge. Keep a note on your phone’s home screen if that is where you look most often. Reading the same verse daily for a week will do more than scrolling through fifteen once.

Pray the verses instead of only reading them. Turn a line such as Psalm 73:26 into a sentence you speak to God in your own words, and say it when you notice the familiar heaviness returning. Tiredness is not a failure, and bringing it to God in this simple way turns each weary moment into a small act of trust.

A Short Prayer for When You Feel Tired

Lord, you know how heavy this day feels in my body and my mind. I am tired, and I do not want to pretend I have more strength than I do. Give me rest where I need it, and help me say no to what I cannot carry right now. Renew my strength the way you promised, one small step at a time. Thank you that you do not grow weary, and that you welcome me when I come to you empty-handed. Amen.
