This list gives you Bible verses about answered prayer, for anyone who has asked God for something and is waiting, wondering, or trying to recognize whether an answer has already come. Scripture is full of people who prayed, waited, and saw God respond in ways they did not expect. Taken together, these verses share one conviction: God listens, he keeps his promises, and his answers often arrive in his own time and shape.

Verses for When You Are Still Waiting

Waiting is the hardest part of prayer for many people. The verses in this section speak to the stretch of time between asking and receiving, when silence can feel like refusal. They are meant to steady your heart while the answer is still on its way.

Psalm 27:14

Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.

(WEB)

David wrote this after facing real danger, and he ends with a command to wait and be strong. Try writing it on a card and placing it where you will see it at the start of your workday, as a reminder that waiting is an active trust, not idle time.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah speaks to exhausted people who have been hoping in God for a long time. When you feel depleted by an unanswered request, pause for a moment each evening and name one small thing you are still hoping God will do, then rest in the promise of renewed strength.

Lamentations 3:25

The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.

(WEB)

This verse comes from a book of grief, yet it affirms that waiting on God is good. Consider what your current waiting would look like if you treated it as a time of seeking him rather than only seeking an outcome, and let that shift your prayers this week.

Verses That Speak of God Hearing and Answering

These passages affirm the basic truth behind every answered prayer: God hears the people who call on him. They are useful when you doubt whether your prayers reach him at all, or when you need to remember the character of the one you are speaking to.

1 John 5:14

This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.

(WEB)

John connects confidence in prayer with asking according to God’s will. Before your next prayer, take a minute to ask whether what you want aligns with his character, and let that honest question shape how you bring the request to him.

Psalm 34:17

The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

(WEB)

The psalmist speaks plainly about the righteous who cry out and are heard. Use this verse when your prayer feels small or tearful, and say the words aloud to remind yourself that a cry for help is exactly what God welcomes.

Jeremiah 33:3

‘Call to me, and I will answer you, and will show you great and difficult things, which you don’t know.’

(WEB)

God invites Jeremiah to call to him and promises to answer and show great things. Think of one question you have been carrying and ask God directly, then keep a notebook where you record what you notice over the following weeks.

Matthew 7:7-8

7 “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. 8 For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.

(WEB)

Jesus gives three verbs in a row: ask, seek, knock. Each one describes a steady, persistent movement toward God, and each carries the promise that the one who persists will receive. Consider which of the three you have been neglecting in your prayer life lately.

Verses for Recognizing God’s Answers in Ordinary Days

Sometimes an answer does not look like what we asked for, or it comes gradually and is easy to miss. These verses help you notice the ways God responds, including through people, provision, and changes in your own heart.

Ephesians 3:20

Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…

(WEB)

Paul writes of a God who can do far more than we ask or imagine. Notice where your prayers have been limited by what you thought was possible, and bring one of those limits to God with fresh expectation.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul links prayer and thanksgiving to a peace that guards the heart. When you bring a request, also name something you already see God doing, since gratitude often helps you recognize answers that have quietly begun.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

James assures believers that God gives wisdom generously and without reproach. If you are facing a decision and cannot see the answer, ask for wisdom specifically, and watch for guidance that comes through Scripture, counsel, and a settled sense of direction.

Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered.

(WEB)

Paul says the Spirit helps us in our weakness when we do not know how to pray as we ought. On days when words fail, you can simply tell God you do not know what to say, and trust that he understands the groaning beneath your request.

Psalm 40:1-2

1 I waited patiently for the LORD. He turned to me, and heard my cry. 2 He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand.

(WEB)

David describes waiting patiently, crying out, and then being lifted from a pit. Write down a past request that God answered after a long wait, and read it when present waiting tempts you to give up.

Psalm 116:1-2

1 I love the LORD, because he listens to my voice, and my cries for mercy. 2 Because he has turned his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

(WEB)

The psalmist loves the Lord because he has heard his voice and his pleas for mercy. Make a habit of thanking God by name for specific answers you can recall, since remembering answered prayer strengthens faith for the next request.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses that fit where you are right now, rather than trying to memorize the whole list at once. Write them on index cards, in the margin of a journal, or as a note on your phone, and keep them in places you naturally pause, such as the kitchen counter, your car dashboard, or the first page of your planner. Reading them aloud before you pray can help slow your thoughts and bring your attention back to God.

When an answer comes, return to the verse that matched your prayer and write a short sentence beside it describing what happened. Over time this becomes a record of God’s faithfulness that you can read during seasons of doubt. If an answer does not come the way you hoped, use the same verses to ask God what he is teaching you in the waiting, and keep praying honestly.

A Short Prayer for Answered Prayers

Lord, you have said that you hear those who call on you, and I believe you are faithful to keep your word. Help me to bring my requests to you with honesty, trusting you with the outcomes I cannot see. Where I have been waiting, give me patience that does not turn into resignation, and where you have already answered, open my eyes to notice it. Teach me to thank you for what you have done and to trust you with what remains. Amen.

A Blessing

May the Lord who hears your prayers give you peace in the waiting and clear eyes for the answers already on their way. May he strengthen your heart when hope feels thin, and may you rest in the faithfulness of the one who has never failed to keep his promises. Go in that peace.
