This page gives you Bible verses about encouragement, grouped by the kinds of moments when you most need them: waking up to a heavy day, facing a difficult conversation, lying awake with worry, and returning to God after a setback. It is for anyone who wants Scripture they can read, remember and carry into ordinary life. Each verse below points to the same truth: God is near, He keeps His promises, and He strengthens people who cannot strengthen themselves.

Verses for the Morning Before a Hard Day

Some mornings the list of tasks feels longer than your energy. The verses in this group speak to that first hour, when the day has not yet started but the weight already has.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah speaks to people who feel worn out and thin. Before you reach for your phone, try naming one thing you are dreading today and asking God to renew your strength for that one thing only.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

These words were written in the middle of ruin, yet they turn toward God’s mercy that is new each morning. Write the phrase “new this morning” on a sticky note and place it where you brush your teeth.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

(WEB)

This verse invites you to receive the day as a gift rather than a burden. Say it out loud once while you make coffee, and let it set the tone before the first email arrives.

Psalm 5:3

The LORD, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.

(WEB)

The psalmist brings his requests to God early and waits expectantly. Try a two-minute prayer before checking messages, simply laying out the day and asking God to meet you in it.

Verses for a Difficult Conversation or Decision

When you must speak a hard truth, face a conflict or make a choice with lasting weight, you need courage more than cleverness. These verses remind you that God goes before you and does not abandon you in the room.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

God gave Joshua this command as he prepared to lead Israel into an unknown land. Before a difficult meeting, repeat the line “I am with you” to yourself and let it steady your breathing.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses spoke these words to a nation facing enemies they feared. If you are dreading a confrontation, write the verse on a card and read it in the car before you walk in.

Psalm 27:1

The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

(WEB)

David names the Lord as the one whose presence removes the fear of what people can do to him. Think of one person you must face today, and pray that God’s light would be the first thing they see in you.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

This passage asks you to rely on God rather than on your own understanding when the path is unclear. When you are weighing a decision, list what you know, then ask God to direct the steps you cannot yet see.

Verses for Anxiety and Sleepless Nights

Worry tends to grow strongest in the quiet hours. The verses here offer a place to bring anxious thoughts rather than carrying them alone through the night.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul connects prayer and thanksgiving with a peace that guards the heart. When a worry returns at night, turn it into a short prayer that names the worry and thanks God for one thing you already see.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.

(WEB)

Peter invites believers to hand over their cares because God truly cares for them. Picture placing each worry in an open hand and leaving it there rather than picking it back up when you wake.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

David says he can lie down and sleep because the Lord keeps him safe. Try saying this verse slowly as you lie in bed, letting each phrase slow your thoughts.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks directly to the weary and heavy laden and offers them rest. If you feel exhausted by life, tell Him plainly what is wearing you down, then rest in the fact that He has heard you.

Verses for Returning After a Setback

After failure, loss or a fresh wound of regret, encouragement can feel hard to receive. These verses speak to God’s willingness to restore, forgive and begin again with you.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Paul writes that God works all things together for good for those who love Him. This does not mean every hard thing is good, but it means God is not finished with your story. Ask Him this week to show you one place where He is already at work.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit. If you are grieving a loss, let this verse be a reminder that you do not have to hide your pain from God.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

God tells Paul that His grace is sufficient in weakness. When you feel you have nothing left to offer, speak this promise over your limitations and ask for grace for the next small step.

Lamentations 3:31-32

31 For the Lord will not cast off forever. 32 For though he causes grief, yet he will have compassion according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

(WEB)

Even in judgment, these verses say the Lord does not cast off forever but shows compassion according to His steadfast love. Write down one area where you need God’s compassion, and bring it to Him before the day ends.

How to Use These Verses

Write the verses you return to most on index cards, in the notes app on your phone, or on the inside cover of your journal. A verse you can see at the sink, in the car or on your nightstand is far more likely to come to mind in the moment you need it. Choose three or four to begin with rather than trying to memorize the whole list at once.

Read each verse slowly, then read it again and pause on the one phrase that stands out. Pray that phrase back to God in your own words, and note what you sense He is saying. Returning to the same verse across several weeks often reveals something new, especially when your circumstances change.

A Short Prayer for Encouragement

Lord, you know the weight I am carrying today, and you know the places where I feel weak or afraid. Thank you that your mercies are new each morning and that you draw near to those who are struggling. Give me the courage to face what is in front of me, and remind me of your presence when my thoughts run ahead of what I can handle. Let your peace guard my heart, and help me rest in your faithfulness as I take the next step. Amen.
