This lesson teaches children that God knows everything that will happen, even the things that seem frightening or confusing, and that He keeps His promises. It is designed for children ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes to teach, depending on how many questions your group asks along the way.
Big Idea
God already knows what is going to happen, and He is still in charge of every kingdom. We do not have to be scared of the future, because God is never surprised.
Memory Verse
Daniel 11:2
“Now will I show you the truth. Behold, three more kings will stand up in Persia; and the fourth will be far richer than all of them. When he has grown strong through his riches, he will stir up all against the realm of Greece.
(WEB)
Have children stand up and hold both hands out in front of them, palms up, like they are holding something carefully. Then, as they say the words, slowly lift their hands above their heads, showing that God sees far ahead of us.
The Story: Daniel 11 for Kids
A long time ago, Daniel was a faithful man who lived far away from his home country. God gave Daniel a special message, and an angel came to explain it to him. The angel said that many kings would rise and fall in the years ahead, and that some of them would be very powerful and very proud.
The angel told Daniel about kings who fought with one another. Some kings grew strong and then grew weak. Some made promises and then broke them. The angel described these events in order, so Daniel could see how the story would unfold.
The angel also spoke about a king who would act very proudly. This king thought he was greater than anyone, even greater than God. He did many wrong things, and many people were hurt by his choices. But the angel reminded Daniel that this king would not last forever, because God was still in control.
Daniel listened carefully and wrote down everything he heard. Even when the message was hard to understand, Daniel trusted that God knew exactly what was coming. The angel told him that the end would come at the right time, just as God had planned.
Read It Together
Daniel 11:32
He will corrupt those who do wickedly against the covenant by flatteries; but the people who know their God will be strong, and take action.
(WEB)
Point out that the people who know their God stay strong and do what is right, even when others around them are doing wrong. Ask children what it looks like for them to stay strong for God in their own homes and classrooms.
Daniel 11:35
Some of those who are wise will fall, to refine them, and to purify, and to make them white, even to the time of the end; because it is yet for the time appointed.
(WEB)
Explain that God uses hard times to make His people good and clean on the inside, like gold being heated to remove the dirt. Help children see that God is working even when things feel difficult.
Daniel 11:36
“The king will do according to his will. He will exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and will speak marvelous things against the God of gods. He will prosper until the indignation is accomplished; for that which is determined will be done.
(WEB)
Show children that the proud king thought he was bigger than God, but the chapter makes clear that God’s plans cannot be stopped. Remind them that no person is more powerful than the Lord.
Talk About It
- What is something that made Daniel feel brave when he heard about hard things coming?
- How can you tell that God knew what would happen before it happened?
- What do you think it means to stay strong for God when people around you are not doing what is right?
- Why do you think God wanted Daniel to write down this message for the people to read later?
- When you feel worried about something you cannot control, what could you remember about God?
Activity Ideas
Draw a Timeline of God’s Plan
You will need a long strip of paper, crayons or markers, and tape. Ask children to draw simple pictures along the strip showing things that happened in the story, such as kings rising and falling. As they draw, talk about how God knew the order of every event, and tape the strip to the wall where children can see it during the week.
Stand Strong Game
You will need an open space and a few chairs or pillows. Have children walk around the room like wind is blowing them, then call out “Stand strong!” and have them freeze with their feet planted wide. Repeat several times, reminding children that the people who know God can stand firm even when things around them are shaking.
Take-Home Promise Card
You will need index cards, a pencil, and a marker. Have each child write or draw one thing they can trust God with this week, such as a test, a new school year, or a friend who feels far away. Encourage them to place the card by their bed so they can look at it each night and remember that God knows what comes next.
Teacher Notes
For adults, this chapter shows that God gave Daniel a detailed view of history so that His people would trust Him through upheaval and hardship. It is a reminder that God’s purposes move forward even when rulers seem powerful and events seem chaotic, and that faithfulness is valued above any earthly power.
Avoid overstating the specific historical identifications of the kings and kingdoms to children. Keep the focus on the big truths: God knows the future, He keeps His word, and His people are called to stay faithful.
A Prayer to Close
Dear God, thank You that You know everything that will happen, even the things we cannot see yet. Help us to trust You when we feel scared, and help us to stay strong and faithful to You every day. Thank You that You are always in control. Amen.
