This lesson teaches children that God is far greater than anything we can count or measure, so He is worthy of our trust and respect. It works well for ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

Big Idea

God is bigger and purer than anything we can see, and no one is too small for Him to love and care for.

Memory Verse

Job 25:2

“Dominion and fear are with him. He makes peace in his high places.

(WEB)

Hold both hands up high like a mountain, then slowly lower them as you say the words aloud. Ask the children to show you how high God is by reaching as far up as they can.

The Story: Job 25 for Kids

Once there was a man named Bildad, who was a friend of Job. Job was going through a very hard time, and his friends had come to talk with him. Bildad sat down and began to speak about God, who is powerful and holy. He reminded everyone that God rules over the high places of heaven and brings peace there.

Bildad then asked a question that made people think. He wondered how anyone could count all of God’s armies, or see all the places where His light shines. There are so many, and no one could ever count them all. God’s greatness is much bigger than what any person can understand.

Next, Bildad looked up at the sky. He pointed to the moon and the stars and said that even they do not shine as brightly as God’s light. Compared to God, the brightest things we know seem dim and small. Bildad wanted everyone to see how different God is from people.

Then Bildad spoke about people. He said that people are like a worm, small and weak, when we stand next to God’s greatness. He called us the son of man, which means a human being. He wanted everyone to remember that we are not better than God, and we need His help.

Read It Together

Job 25:4-5

4 How then can man be just with God? Or how can he who is born of a woman be clean? 5 Behold, even the moon has no brightness, and the stars are not pure in his sight…

(WEB)

Point out how the verses describe the moon and stars as not bright enough in God’s sight. Ask the children what it means that God’s light is so much greater than the light we see in the sky.

Job 25:6

How much less man, who is a worm, the son of man, who is a worm!”

(WEB)

Read this slowly and explain that the verse talks about how small people feel next to God. Remind the children that feeling small is not bad, because God cares for us even though He is so great.

Talk About It

  • What is the biggest thing you have ever seen, and how did it make you feel?
  • Why do you think God’s light is brighter than the moon and stars?
  • What does it mean that God is in charge of everything?
  • How can we show respect to God when we pray or sing to Him?
  • If God is so great, why do you think He still cares about each of us?

Activity Ideas

Star Night Drawing

You will need dark construction paper, white crayons or chalk, and a few glitter dots if you have them. Have each child draw a night sky and add stars, then talk about how God’s light is brighter than every star they drew. Let them write one word about God’s greatness at the bottom of the page.

Mountain Stretch Game

Ask the children to stand up and stretch their arms as high as they can, like they are reaching for the top of a tall mountain. Call out different heights, such as low like a worm, medium like a tree, and high like the sky, and have them move with each call. End by sitting down quietly and saying that God is higher than all of it.

Light in the Dark Card

Give each child an index card and a small flashlight or a candle with an adult nearby. Have them draw a small picture of a light on the card and take it home to show their family. At home, encourage them to turn off the lights for a moment and talk about how God’s light is greater than any light in the room.

Teacher Notes

This short speech by Bildad teaches adults that God is holy, powerful, and beyond human understanding, and that no person can claim to be purer or more righteous than Him. The passage also reminds us that human frailty is real, while God’s care for people remains steady despite His greatness.

Avoid suggesting that children are worms or are unworthy, because the chapter speaks of human smallness in comparison with God and does not describe God’s love for each child. Keep the focus on God’s greatness and His kindness toward us.

A Prayer to Close

Dear God, we are so glad that You are bigger and brighter than anything we can see. Thank You for shining Your light into our lives and for caring about each of us. Help us to trust You and to honor You every day. Amen.
