In this lesson, children learn that God is pleased when brothers and sisters, and friends who love Him, get along and live together in unity. It suits children ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

Big Idea

God loves it when people who belong to Him live together in peace and kindness. Getting along is good, and God gives His blessing where His people live as one family.

Memory Verse

Psalm 133:1

See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!

(WEB)

Have the children put their hands together, palms touching, then slowly move them apart and bring them back. Each time they do it, they say “Living together is good!” The motion reminds them that God is pleased when people stay close and kind.

The Story: Psalm 133 for Kids

Long ago, King David wrote a short song about something he had seen. He saw brothers and friends who were living together peacefully, and it made him happy. He wanted everyone to know how good that feels, both for the people and for God. So he wrote it down in a song that we still read today.

David made a picture with his words. He thought about a special oil that was poured on the head of Aaron, the high priest. The oil was rich and sweet, and it ran down onto his beard and onto the edge of his robes. It spread out and covered him from top to bottom. David said that living together in unity is like that oil, because it spreads good feelings everywhere.

David also thought about the dew that falls at night on the high hills near Jerusalem. Dew is cool and gentle, and it helps the grass and plants grow. The hills of Zion were the place where God’s people gathered to worship Him. David said that God gives His blessing there, where His people live together as one.

The song ends with a promise. David says that God gives a blessing there, a life that lasts forever. When people choose to live in peace, God gives them something good that never ends. Children can hear how much God cares about families and friends who love each other.

Read It Together

Psalm 133:2

It is like the precious oil on the head, that ran down on the beard, even Aaron’s beard; that came down on the edge of his robes…

(WEB)

Show the children how the oil runs down and covers everything. Explain that good attitudes spread from one person to the next, just as oil spreads. Ask them how a kind word can make a whole room feel better.

Psalm 133:3

Like the dew of Hermon, that comes down on the hills of Zion: for there the LORD gives the blessing, even life forever more.

(WEB)

Point to the dew and explain that it comes quietly and gently, without anyone noticing. Talk about how God blesses His people where they live together. Remind children that God’s blessing is a gift, and it lasts forever.

Talk About It

  • What is one thing you can do this week to help your family or friends get along?
  • Why do you think God is happy when His people live together in peace?
  • What does it feel like when someone is kind to you after an argument?
  • How can we show someone in our class that we want to be their friend?
  • What is something good God has given you that you can share with others?

Activity Ideas

Hands Together Drawing

You will need paper, crayons, and a pencil. Have each child trace both hands on the paper, then join the two tracings so the fingers overlap in the middle. Ask them to color the picture and write or draw one way they can live peacefully with someone this week. Display the pictures on the wall to remind everyone of the psalm.

Oil and Dew Relay

You will need two cups, a spoon, and a small amount of cooking oil or water for pretend. Divide the children into two teams and have them pass a spoon carrying a drop of oil from one person to the next without spilling it. Explain that good unity spreads like oil, one person at a time, and cheer for the team that works together.

Peace Promise Card

You will need an index card and a marker for each child. Have them write “I will live in peace” on the card, then add one small action they plan to do at home, such as sharing a toy or saying sorry. Encourage them to keep the card in a pocket or on the fridge and read it during the week. Ask a parent to talk about it at the dinner table.

Teacher Notes

For adults, Psalm 133 is a short song celebrating the beauty of God’s people living together in harmony. The images of oil and dew show that unity is pleasant, life-giving, and reaches far beyond the people involved. It also shows that God’s blessing rests where His people choose to walk in unity.

With children, avoid suggesting that living in peace always means avoiding conflict or that everything will feel easy. Real families and friends still disagree sometimes, and the lesson is about returning to peace with God’s help. Keep the focus on God’s gentle, generous character rather than on performance.

A Prayer to Close

Dear God, thank You for our families and friends. Help us to live together in peace and be kind to one another. Thank You for blessing us when we get along. Show us how to share Your love with everyone we meet. Amen.
