This lesson teaches children that God is holy, good, and true, and that everyone who trusts him will one day sing about how wonderful he is. It suits children ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes, including the story, the verses, and a short activity.

Big Idea

God is holy, good, and true, and he is worthy of all our praise. Even when his judgments are serious, everything he does is right and fair.

Memory Verse

Revelation 15:4

Who wouldn’t fear you, Lord, and glorify your name? For you only are holy. For all the nations will come and worship before you. For your righteous acts have been revealed.”

(WEB)

Have children stand, raise both hands high, and then slowly bring them down to their hearts as they say the verse together. Repeat it three times, getting a little quieter each time until they whisper the last one.

The Story: Revelation 15 for Kids

John saw something new in the sky, and it was a big and amazing sign. Seven angels were standing there, and each one was holding one of the last plagues. These plagues showed that God’s anger against evil was coming to an end. John wanted the children to know that God was in complete control of everything happening.

Next, John saw a sea that looked like glass mixed with fire. Standing beside it were people who had stayed faithful to God even when it was hard. They were not bowing to the beast or to his false images. They held harps that God had given them, and they were ready to sing. Their hearts were full of joy, because they knew God had kept them safe.

The people began to sing two songs together. One was the song of Moses, God’s faithful servant, and the other was the song of the Lamb, who is Jesus. Their song said, “Great and wonderful are your works, Lord God, the All-Powerful. Your ways are right and true, O King of all nations.” Imagine a whole crowd of people singing in one voice, all telling God how good he is.

Then the temple in heaven was opened, and the seven angels came out. They were dressed in clean, shining linen, with golden belts around their chests. One of the living creatures handed each angel a golden bowl filled with God’s anger against sin. The angels were ready to do exactly what God had told them to do.

Last of all, the temple filled with smoke from God’s glory and power. Nobody could go inside until the angels had finished their work. It was a quiet and holy moment, showing that God is greater than anything we can see or understand. Everyone in heaven was waiting in awe for God to finish what he had promised.

Read It Together

Revelation 15:1

I saw another great and marvelous sign in the sky: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them God’s wrath is finished.

Point out that John described this as a sign, something that points to a bigger truth. Ask children what kinds of signs they see in the world, like a stop sign or a rainbow, and how they help us understand what is happening.

Revelation 15:3

They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God, the Almighty! Righteous and true are your ways, you King of the nations.

(WEB)

Show children how the people in this verse praise God for being righteous and true. Explain that the word “righteous” means doing what is right and fair, and that God never makes a mistake when he judges.

Revelation 15:8

The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power. No one was able to enter into the temple, until the seven plagues of the seven angels would be finished.

(WEB)

Point out that the temple was filled with God’s glory, and no one could enter until the work was finished. Help children see that God is so holy that we can only come to him in the way he has made possible.

Talk About It

  • What is one thing about God that makes you want to sing to him?
  • Why do you think the people in the story were singing beside the glassy sea?
  • What does it mean that God’s ways are right and true, and how can we see that in our own lives?
  • How do you think it felt to be in heaven when the temple was full of God’s glory?
  • What is one way you can praise God this week, even when things feel hard?

Activity Ideas

Glassy Sea Craft

You will need blue and red tissue paper, a sheet of white paper, and glue. Have children tear the blue tissue into small pieces and glue them across the bottom of the paper to form a sea. Then add a few torn red pieces near the top to show the fire, and draw a small figure of a person standing on the sea with a harp.

Harp and Sing Game

Gather the children in a circle and give each one a pretend harp made from their hands. Call out “Holy, holy, holy” and have everyone strum and sing. Then have them stop and freeze, and call out “Righteous and true!” They can pretend to bow with their harp, and then start singing again.

Take-Home Praise Card

You will need an index card, a marker, and a rubber band. Have children write “God is holy, good, and true” on one side of the card and draw a picture of something they love about God on the other side. Help them punch a small hole at the top, thread a rubber band through, and encourage them to keep it in their pocket or backpack as a reminder to pray and sing to God during the week.

Teacher Notes

For adults, Revelation 15 points to God’s complete holiness and justice, and it shows that his people will one day worship him fully and joyfully. The chapter reminds believers that God’s judgments are true and right, and that his faithful people will rejoice in that truth. Many Christians read this as an encouragement to stay faithful while waiting for God to finish his work.

Avoid overstating the imagery to children. The seven bowls, the sea of glass, and the smoke are symbolic and meant to show God’s power and holiness, not to create fear about specific events. Focus on God’s goodness and faithfulness rather than the details of judgment, which can frighten young hearts.

A Prayer to Close

Holy God, we praise you because you are good, true, and wonderful in all you do. Help us trust you when we do not understand everything, and help us sing your praise every day. Thank you for being faithful to your people. Amen.
