This lesson teaches children that Jesus is the King of kings and that He always keeps His promises, even when everything around them looks scary. It works well for children ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes, including the story, the verses, and the activity.

Big Idea

Jesus is the true King, and He is faithful and fair. We can trust Him, and we can celebrate Him, because He always does what is right.

Memory Verse

Revelation 19:16

He has on his garment and on his thigh a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

(WEB)

Stand tall with your hands on your head like a crown. Then point to the sky and say the words out loud together. Repeat it three times, lifting your arms higher each time.

The Story: Revelation 19 for Kids

One day, the apostle John saw heaven open up. A great crowd of people in heaven began to sing, “Hallelujah! Salvation, power, and glory belong to our God!” Their voices sounded like loud music, like many waters rushing together, and like thunder rolling across the sky. They sang because God always judges fairly, and He always keeps His word.

John then saw a white horse. The rider on the horse is called Faithful and True. His eyes were like a blazing fire, and He wore many crowns on His head. On His robe and on His leg was written a special name: King of kings and Lord of lords. Faithful and True is Jesus, and He is the One who makes everything right.

Behind Him rode armies dressed in clean, white linen. John saw an angel standing in the bright sun, calling out to the birds in the sky. The angel said, “Come and gather for the great supper of God!” This was a picture of God’s power and justice, because the wrong things in the world would not win.

John also saw the beast and the false prophet, along with the kings of the earth, gathered together to fight against the King on the white horse. But the beast and the false prophet were stopped. They were thrown into the lake of fire. The King defeated every enemy with the sword that came from His mouth, which means His powerful word.

John heard one more happy message. The Lamb, which is Jesus, was getting married, and His bride had made herself ready. Her fine linen clothes stood for the good and right things God’s people do. An angel told John, “Write this down: blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb.” John was so amazed that he began to bow down, but the angel said, “No, worship God alone.”

Read It Together

Revelation 19:1-2

1 After these things I heard something like a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Hallelujah! Salvation, power, and glory belong to our God: 2 for true and righteous are his judgments. For he has judged the great prostitute, who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality, and he has avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.”

(WEB)

Point out that the crowd in heaven praises God because His judgments are true and righteous. Ask the children why it is good to thank God for being fair, even when we do not fully understand what He is doing.

Revelation 19:7

Let us rejoice and be exceedingly glad, and let us give the glory to him. For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his wife has made herself ready.”

(WEB)

Show the children that this verse is full of joy, not fear. Explain that the Lamb is Jesus and that the wedding is a picture of Jesus joining His people together forever.

Revelation 19:11

I saw the heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it is called Faithful and True. In righteousness he judges and makes war.

(WEB)

Point to the name Faithful and True. Explain that God’s people can count on Jesus to keep every promise He makes, just like a friend who always tells the truth.

Talk About It

  • What does it feel like to know that Jesus is the King who always wins?
  • Why do you think the people in heaven were singing and shouting with joy?
  • What is one promise Jesus has made that you are thankful for?
  • How can we show that we are ready for the wedding supper of the Lamb?
  • When you feel scared about something, what can you remember about Jesus being King?

Activity Ideas

Paper Crown Craft

You will need strips of paper, crayons or markers, tape, and safety scissors. Let each child decorate a paper strip and write “King of kings” on it. Tape the ends together so it fits around their head. As they wear their crown, remind them that Jesus is the true King.

Victory Shout Game

Gather the children in an open space and have them stand on one side of the room. Ask them to walk slowly like a white horse across the room, lifting their knees high. When you say “Hallelujah!”, they shout it out loud and freeze with their arms raised high. Repeat several times, and keep the movements joyful and simple.

Take-Home Promise Card

You will need index cards, a pencil, and a marker. Write “Jesus is faithful and true” on one side of each card. Let each child draw a picture of something Jesus has promised on the other side. Encourage them to place the card by their bed or in their backpack to remember the lesson during the week.

Teacher Notes

For adults, Revelation 19 shows that God’s justice will finally be complete and that Jesus will reign with full authority over every nation. The chapter invites believers to worship, trust, and live faithfully while they wait for the day when all things are made right. It also points forward to the joy of God’s people being united with Christ forever.

With children, avoid making the battle scenes sound frightening or violent. Focus on Jesus’ faithfulness, goodness, and victory, and keep the emphasis on worship and joy rather than the details of the destruction. Let them ask questions, and answer simply and honestly.

A Prayer to Close

Dear Jesus, we thank You that You are the King of kings and the Lord of lords. We thank You that You are faithful and true, and that we can always trust You. Help us to worship You with joy and to live ready for Your kingdom. Amen.
