This list gives you Bible verses to read and pray before you travel, whether you are boarding a flight, driving a long highway, or heading somewhere unfamiliar for the first time. It is written for anyone who feels a knot of worry before a trip and wants steady words to hold onto.

The verses below share one thread: God goes with you, watches over your comings and goings, and gives peace that does not depend on the weather, the schedule, or how well you planned.

Verses for the Morning You Leave

The hours before departure are often the busiest and most anxious. These verses help you slow down long enough to hand the day to God before the first bag is zipped.

Psalm 121:8

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

This verse promises that the Lord watches over your going out and your coming in. Before you lock the front door, pause for a moment and name the trip aloud, asking God to keep watch over every mile of it.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Plans rarely unfold exactly as written, and this passage invites you to trust God with the route even when you cannot see it. Write your itinerary on a card, then add a line beneath it saying you are placing the details in God’s hands.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Peace comes to the mind that stays fixed on God, not to the mind that has checked every possible delay. Try repeating this verse slowly while you wait in the security line or at the gate.

Verses for the Journey Itself

Once you are on the road, in the air, or on the train, your mind may drift toward what could go wrong. These verses are meant to be read in spare moments, when you need a steadying word rather than a long study.

Psalm 139:9-10

9 If I take the wings of the dawn, and settle in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me.

(WEB)

The psalmist imagines going to the farthest edges of the earth and still finding God already there. When a layover runs long or a road seems endless, remind yourself that no distance takes you out of God’s reach.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses spoke these words to Israel as they faced an unknown land, and the promise applies to any unfamiliar place you are heading. Say the phrase “he will not leave you” whenever you feel alone in a crowded station or a strange city.

Psalm 91:11

For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

(WEB)

This verse speaks of angels being given charge over the one who trusts in God. Keep it in mind during turbulence or on a winding mountain road, and pray for the people around you as well as for yourself.

Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.

(WEB)

The prophet describes passing through waters and fire, pictures of real danger, yet with God present. Read this when a delay or a difficult stretch of travel tests your patience, and thank God for each step taken safely.

Verses for Trusting God With the Unknown

Every trip involves some uncertainty about what you will find, who you will meet, and how things will go. These verses turn that uncertainty toward the God who has already gone ahead of you.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

(WEB)

The shepherd psalm speaks of walking through dark valleys without fear, because the Lord is near. When you reach an unfamiliar airport or a dim hotel corridor late at night, let this verse remind you that you are not walking alone.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

God told Joshua to be strong and courageous because the Lord his God would be with him wherever he went. Before you step onto the plane or pull out of the driveway, say this verse out loud as a short declaration of courage.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Jesus reminds his listeners that each day has enough trouble of its own, and worrying about tomorrow adds nothing. If you find yourself rehearsing every possible problem on the drive, bring your attention back to the next mile.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul pairs anxiety with prayer and promises a peace that guards the heart and mind. Write down the specific things you are worried about before you leave, then pray over each one by name.

Verses for Returning Home Safely

The trip is not over until you are back under your own roof. These verses give thanks for the way home and ask God to bring you back in good health and good spirits.

Numbers 6:24-26

24 ‘The LORD bless you, and keep you. 25 The LORD make his face to shine on you, and be gracious to you. 26 The LORD lift up his face toward you, and give you peace.’

(WEB)

This priestly blessing asks that the Lord keep you and turn his face toward you. Speak it over yourself or your family as the car turns onto your street or the wheels touch down at home.

Psalm 107:30

Then they are glad because it is calm, so he brings them to their desired haven.

(WEB)

The psalm describes sailors who are brought safely to their desired haven after a storm. Let this verse shape your gratitude when you arrive, naming the specific ways God kept you through the journey.

Psalm 118:1

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

(WEB)

Giving thanks is a simple way to close a trip well. Before you unpack, take a few minutes to thank God for the travel, the people you met, and the safe return.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses that speak most directly to your trip and write them on an index card or a note on your phone. Keep the card in your bag or wallet so you can read it at the gate, in the car, or in a quiet hotel room.

Pray the verses instead of simply reading them. Turn each one into a sentence addressed to God, asking him to do what the verse promises, and return to the same few verses whenever anxiety rises during the trip.

A Short Prayer for Travel

Lord, you know every road I will take and every hour I will spend away from home. I give you this trip, with its plans, its uncertainties, and the people I will meet along the way. Keep watch over me on the way out and on the way back, and steady my heart when delays or surprises come.

Be near to the people I love while I am gone, and bring us all together again safely. Let my trust rest in you rather than in my own careful planning. Amen.
