This list gives you Bible verses to read, pray and carry with you if you are preparing for a baby shower, whether you are hosting, giving a gift, speaking a blessing over the mother-to-be, or simply feeling the weight of a season of new life. These verses share a common thread: they speak of God as the one who knows each person by name, who gives strength for what is ahead, and who keeps faithful watch over the coming generation.

Verses for Rejoicing Over New Life

Before the cake is cut and the gifts are opened, it helps to remember why the gathering exists. These passages turn your attention toward gratitude and the simple goodness of a child being on the way.

Psalm 127:3

Behold, children are a heritage of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is his reward.

(WEB)

The psalmist calls children a heritage and a reward, which means they are a gift rather than a burden or a transaction. At the shower, you might speak this truth out loud over the mother, naming the child as a blessing before anyone starts talking about schedules or expenses.

Psalm 139:13-14

13 For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.

(WEB)

Long before anyone sees a face, the psalmist says God was already at work forming a person with care. Carry this into the day by pausing when you see the mother’s belly and thanking God quietly for the detailed, unseen work happening inside her.

Luke 1:44

For behold, when the voice of your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy!

(WEB)

Elizabeth’s unborn son leaps for joy at the presence of Mary, the mother of the Lord. It is a rare picture of an unborn child shown as glad and responsive. Let it shape your attitude by greeting the expectant mother warmly and celebrating the life she carries.

Verses for Trusting God With What Is Ahead

A new baby brings excitement and also a quiet list of worries. These verses speak to the mother, the father, and the family who are holding both feelings at the same time.

Isaiah 40:11

He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young.

(WEB)

Isaiah pictures God as a shepherd who gently carries lambs close to his heart and leads the nursing ewes with care. Let this image reach the new parents by writing a card that mentions God’s gentleness with the vulnerable and tender.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul moves from anxiety to prayer and then to a peace that guards the heart. When a mother-to-be starts listing her fears, you can respond by asking her what she would like to bring to God in prayer, and offering to pray with her before you leave.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

The psalm promises that the Lord keeps watch over coming and going, now and forever. Many parents wake at night wondering if they can manage. Share this verse as a reminder that someone bigger than the household is watching over them in every hour.

Verses for Blessing the Mother and Family

Showers often focus on the baby, yet the mother and her family are also walking into a new chapter. These verses turn attention toward the people who will do the daily work of love.

Numbers 6:24-26

24 ‘The LORD bless you, and keep you. 25 The LORD make his face to shine on you, and be gracious to you. 26 The LORD lift up his face toward you, and give you peace.’

(WEB)

This ancient blessing asks God to keep, shine upon, and give peace to his people. It is a fitting prayer to speak over a family before they leave the shower, and you can say it aloud with your hands raised or resting gently on a shoulder.

Ruth 1:16

Ruth said, “Don’t urge me to leave you, and to return from following you, for where you go, I will go; and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God my God.

(WEB)

Ruth’s loyalty to Naomi shows what faithful companionship looks like. Expectant parents will need that kind of steady presence from friends and relatives. Consider how you could offer a specific, reliable form of help, such as a meal or an afternoon of watching older children.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

(WEB)

Paul asks believers to carry one another’s burdens, which fits the season of a new baby perfectly. Write down two or three practical ways you can share the load in the first weeks, then offer one of them before the shower ends.

Verses for Hope in the Weeks and Years to Come

The shower marks a beginning rather than an end. These verses look forward to the long road of raising a child in faith and love.

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

(WEB)

Proverbs encourages parents to train a child in the way he should go. The verse is about patient, daily shaping rather than instant results. As you give a gift, you might include a children’s Bible or a note saying you will be praying for the child’s growth over many years.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses tells Israel to be strong and courageous because the Lord goes with them. Parenting will bring unfamiliar moments, and this verse reminds the family they are not walking through them alone. Copy it onto a card and place it where the parents will see it during late-night feedings.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

(WEB)

God speaks to exiles about plans for welfare and a future with hope. Use this verse to frame the baby’s life as held within God’s larger purposes, and let it guide how you speak about the child’s future when you congratulate the family.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses that fit the mother and family you are celebrating. Write them neatly on a card, a gift tag, or the inside cover of a baby book, so the words can be read again after the party is over. Many parents find it helps to keep one verse on the refrigerator or the changing table as a daily anchor.

You can also read these passages aloud during the shower, perhaps during a moment of toasts or before the gifts are opened. Keep it brief and warm. Afterward, pray each verse over the family in the days that follow, asking God to make the words real in their home.

A Short Prayer for Baby Showers

Lord, thank you for the gift of new life and for the child you are forming with care. We celebrate this family with joy and ask you to make the mother strong and rested, the father steady and encouraged, and the whole household held in your peace. Give them wisdom for the decisions ahead and friends who show up with practical love. Remind them, on the hardest nights, that you keep watch over them. We trust this little one to your faithful hands. Amen.
