This list gives you Bible verses about endurance, grouped by the kinds of seasons that test our staying power: long waits, repeated setbacks, tiring work, and the quiet weariness of faithfulness no one notices. It is written for anyone who needs to keep going and would like Scripture to meet them where they are.

What these verses share is a view of endurance that does not depend on your strength alone. Each one points to God as the source of steadiness and to hope as the reason to keep moving forward.

Verses for Long Waits and Slow Answers

Some seasons do not end when we expect them to. These verses speak to the ache of waiting for a prayer that seems unanswered, a diagnosis that has not improved, or a door that stays closed.

Psalm 27:14

Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.

(WEB)

David addresses the person who is tired of waiting and reminds them that waiting is not wasted. Try saying the verse slowly once each morning, then name one small thing you can do today that keeps your hope active.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes strength that comes from waiting on the Lord rather than from our own reserves. When you feel depleted, pause before your next task and ask God for the renewal this promise describes.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

These lines come from a book written in grief, yet they hold on to God’s faithfulness at dawn. Read them the next time you wake up dreading the day, and let the morning remind you that mercy is renewed.

Romans 8:25

But if we hope for that which we don’t see, we wait for it with patience.

(WEB)

Paul links hope with patient waiting, saying that what we do not yet see can still be held with confidence. Write this verse on a card and place it where you will see it during the hardest part of your day.

Verses for Hard Work and Repeated Setbacks

Endurance is often tested in ordinary labor: a demanding job, a long caregiving schedule, or a project that keeps demanding more. These verses address the discouragement that comes from trying again after things go wrong.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul warns against growing weary in doing good and promises a harvest in its time. If you are tired of effort that seems unseen, take one faithful step today and trust that your labor is not in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:58

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

(WEB)

This verse ties steady work to the certainty of the resurrection, so your effort has a lasting purpose. Before starting a difficult task, remind yourself that the Lord is at work in what you are doing.

Hebrews 12:1-2

1 Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

(WEB)

The writer pictures a race and asks us to keep our eyes on Jesus, who endured the cross. When you feel like quitting, fix your attention on Christ for a minute and let His faithfulness steady your pace.

James 1:12

Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.

(WEB)

James speaks of blessing for the one who perseveres under trial and holds on to God’s promise. Think of one trial you are facing and offer it to God by naming it honestly in prayer.

2 Corinthians 4:16-17

16 Therefore we don’t faint, but though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory…

(WEB)

Paul admits that the outer self wastes away while the inner self is renewed day by day. Notice one small sign of inner growth this week, such as patience or gratitude, and thank God for it.

Verses for Suffering That Does Not Let Up

Some trials come with pain that lingers for months or years. These verses offer comfort to those who are carrying heavy burdens and need assurance that God is near in the middle of them.

Romans 5:3-5

3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: 5 and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

(WEB)

Paul traces a path from suffering to endurance to character to hope. If you are in a long trial, read this passage as a map of what God may be forming in you, even when you cannot yet see it.

Psalm 46:1-2

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas…

(WEB)

The psalmist speaks of God as a refuge even when the ground seems to shake. Picture a steady place you can return to, and when fear rises, bring it to God in that quiet space.

2 Timothy 4:7

I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith.

(WEB)

Paul, near the end of his life, can look back and say he has finished the race and kept the faith. Consider what faithfulness looks like in your own story and give thanks for what has already been carried.

Matthew 24:13

But he who endures to the end, the same will be saved.

(WEB)

Jesus says the one who endures to the end will be saved, a promise that looks ahead to God’s final faithfulness. Use this verse to remind yourself that your endurance is not measured by one hard day.

1 Peter 5:10

But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

(WEB)

Peter promises that after a little suffering, God will restore, establish, and strengthen His people. Write the four verbs from this verse on paper and pray over each one for a specific part of your life.

Verses for Quiet, Faithful Daily Living

Much endurance happens unseen, in the repeated choices of an ordinary week. These verses speak to the steady, unremarkable faithfulness of raising children, keeping promises, and showing up when no one applauds.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Paul asks us to work wholeheartedly as though serving the Lord, not only people. When a task feels thankless, offer it to God as an act of worship and let that change how you approach it.

Psalm 37:7

Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.

(WEB)

The psalmist calls us to be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. Take two minutes in the middle of a busy day to stop, breathe, and let the words of this verse settle your heart.

Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

(WEB)

Paul expresses confidence that God, who began a good work, will carry it to completion. When you feel your progress is too slow, remember that the one who started your story is still writing it.

Revelation 2:10

Don’t be afraid of the things which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested; and you will have oppression for ten days. Be faithful to death, and I will give you the crown of life.

(WEB)

Jesus encourages the church in Smyrna to be faithful even to death, promising the crown of life. Think of one place where you are being asked to stay faithful, and ask God for the courage to keep doing what is right there.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

(WEB)

The psalmist admits that his body and heart may fail, yet God remains his strength forever. When you feel worn down, name the parts of you that are failing and then name God as the one who holds you.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses from the section that fits your season, and write them on a card or in a notes app you check often. Reading them at the start of your day, before the pressures arrive, gives you a steady place to begin.

Pray the verses back to God in your own words instead of only reading them silently. When a passage speaks to a particular struggle, stay with it for a few minutes, and return to it on days when your strength runs low.

A Short Prayer for Endurance

Lord, you know how tired I am, and you know the long road I am walking right now. I confess that I want relief more than I want to grow, and I ask you to meet me in both my weariness and my wanting. Give me the strength that comes from waiting on you, and remind me that my labor is not lost in your sight. Help me take the next faithful step today, and then the one after that, trusting that you are finishing what you began in me. Keep my eyes on Jesus, who endured for the joy set before Him, and let His faithfulness steady my heart. Amen.
