If you are looking for encouraging Bible verses when you feel tired, this list is for you. It gathers passages that speak to exhaustion of body, mind and spirit, and shows how God meets people who have nothing left to give. What these verses share is a simple truth: strength does not come from our own reserves, but from the One who never runs out.

Verses for the Morning You Wake Up Already Drained

Some mornings the day feels heavy before it has begun. The first verses here speak to that early weariness, reminding you that God’s mercy is renewed each day and that you do not have to carry the whole day alone.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

When you wake up with nothing in the tank, try reading this slowly before you reach for your phone. Name one specific mercy you can see already, like coffee, a quiet room or a sleeping child, and thank God for that small gift before the day’s demands arrive.

Psalm 121:1-2

1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

(WEB)

Tiredness often makes the horizon feel closer than it is. Lift your eyes from the pile on your desk for a moment, and let this psalm turn your attention toward the God who made heaven and earth and is not worn down by the work in front of you.

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah says God gives power to the faint and strength to those who have none. Write the phrase “he gives power to the faint” on a sticky note and put it where you will see it at your first break, as a reminder that weakness is not a failure of faith.

Verses for the Afternoon When Your Energy Is Gone

By mid-afternoon the body and mind often ask to quit. These passages address the long middle of the day, when small tasks feel enormous and the next hour seems impossible to face.

Matthew 11:28-30

28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

(WEB)

Jesus invites the weary and burdened to come to him, which is an invitation to stop pretending you are fine. Take two minutes in your car or at your desk to bring him the specific load you are carrying, naming it out loud if you can.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Paul heard God say that his grace is sufficient, and that power is made perfect in weakness. When you feel you have run out of capacity, consider that your limit is exactly where God’s sufficiency is most visible, and let that reframe the hour ahead.

Psalm 62:1-2

1 My soul rests in God alone. My salvation is from him. 2 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress— I will never be greatly shaken.

(WEB)

The psalmist waits quietly for God alone, because he is the only solid rock. In the afternoon slump, try repeating the word “rest” with your next three breaths, letting the psalm steady you for whatever task comes next.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul encourages believers not to grow weary in doing good, because a harvest will come in its time. Tiredness can make ordinary faithfulness feel pointless, so choose one good thing you can finish today and trust that God sees the unseen labor.

Verses for the Night When Sleep Will Not Come

Exhaustion sometimes shows up at night as a racing mind. These verses are meant for bedtime and the hours after midnight, when fear and fatigue seem to press in at once.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

David says he can lie down and sleep in peace because the Lord alone makes him dwell in safety. Before you turn off the light, name one thing you are placing in God’s hands for the night, and then deliberately leave it there.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

This verse says God gives sleep to his beloved, which reminds you that rest is a gift and not a reward you must earn. If you lie awake feeling guilty about being tired, let this truth loosen your grip on the need to be productive every waking minute.

Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered.

(WEB)

Paul says the Spirit helps us in our weakness, even when we do not know how to pray. On nights when your thoughts are too scattered for words, simply breathe out a short sigh to God and trust that he understands the groaning behind it.

Psalm 3:5

I laid myself down and slept. I awakened; for the LORD sustains me.

(WEB)

David writes that he lay down and slept, then woke again, because the Lord sustained him. If you wake in the middle of the night, remind yourself that God has kept you through every night before, and that the morning is his responsibility as well as yours.

Verses for the Seasons When Life Feels Relentless

Some tiredness is not about one bad day but about months of caring for others, grieving, or pushing through difficulty. These verses speak to long seasons when rest feels impossible to find.

Psalm 23:1-3

1 The LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

(WEB)

The shepherd psalm pictures God leading his sheep to green pastures and still waters, and restoring the soul. When you are depleted over a long season, picture yourself lying down in that pasture and let the image slow your breathing.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Jesus tells his listeners not to worry about tomorrow, since each day has enough trouble of its own. When the whole future feels like too much, narrow your focus to the next small step and let tomorrow’s needs wait for tomorrow.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

(WEB)

Asaph admits his flesh and heart may fail, but God is the strength of his heart and his portion forever. Long weariness wears down the body and spirit alike, so speak this truth aloud as a plain statement of where your real strength lies.

How to Use These Verses

Write two or three of these verses on index cards and keep them in your bag, on the bathroom mirror, or beside your bed. Reading one card when you feel tired takes less time than scrolling, and a repeated phrase often does more good than a long reading you forget by lunch.

Choose one passage each morning and say it back to God in your own words before the day begins. When tiredness hits later, return to that same phrase, letting it become a short prayer you can pray between tasks without needing a quiet room or a long stretch of time.

A Short Prayer for When You Feel Tired

Lord, I come to you with empty hands and a heavy heart. You know how worn out I am, and you know the things I cannot fix on my own. Give me the strength you promised to the faint, and help me rest in your steadiness rather than my own effort. Where I feel I have nothing left, remind me that your grace is enough and your mercies are new this morning. Carry the weight I cannot carry, and let me find real rest in you. Amen.
