This morning prayer is for a teacher who is about to walk into a classroom and face a day of lessons, students, colleagues, and the unexpected. Pray it early, before the first bell, in the car, at the kitchen table, or in the parking lot. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words about the people and tasks waiting for you.
Morning Prayer for a Teacher
Lord, thank You for this new day and for the work You have placed in my hands. Before I walk through the classroom door, I ask You to steady my heart. Some of my students are carrying things I cannot see: hard homes, hungry mornings, fears they cannot name. Give me patience when a question is the fifth one asked in ten minutes, and give me eyes to notice the quiet child in the back row who needs one kind word.
I also bring You the lesson plans I have worked on late into the night. Where they are sound, give me clarity to teach them well. Where they fall flat, give me the wisdom to adjust without panic. Guard my voice so it stays calm when the room gets loud, and let my words be useful rather than sharp. Help me remember that every small correction and every encouraging note is a seed, even when I do not see it grow.
Be with my colleagues and with the families who trust me with their children today. Keep me honest, humble, and willing to ask for help. When I feel stretched thin, remind me that You are the one who sustains, not me. Go before me into this day, stay beside me through every hour, and bring me home tonight with a grateful heart. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I am heading into my classroom and I need You now. Give me calm, patience, and clear thinking for the first lesson. Help me see each student as You see them. Let my words build up rather than tear down, and let me trust You with what I cannot control. Thank You for going into the day with me. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying the longer version in the car before you park, or while you walk from the staff lot to your room. If you have a few minutes before the bell, sit at your desk with your hands open on the desk or resting on your planner, a physical reminder to release the day to God. Keep a small card with the shorter prayer in your bag so you can pray it again before lunch or before a difficult meeting.
You might also invite a fellow teacher, a spouse, or a friend from church to pray the morning prayer with you by phone or over coffee. Many schools have a teacher prayer group that meets before classes start, and such a group can carry your needs when you are too tired to pray them yourself. Let others stand with you in this work.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before this teacher into every classroom and hallway today. May He give patience when the day is long, wisdom when the answer is unclear, and joy in the small moments of learning. May the peace of God guard the heart and mind of this one who gives so much to the children in their care.
