This morning prayer is for the work your husband is about to walk into, the meetings, deadlines, conversations and pressures he will carry through the day. You can pray it aloud as written, in the quiet before he leaves the house or the minute before he logs on, or you can use it as a starting point and put his actual tasks and people into your own words.

Morning Prayer for My Husband’s Work

Lord, thank You for this new day and for the work You have given my husband. Before he opens his email or picks up his keys, I ask You to go ahead of him. Settle his mind so that he is not already tangled in tomorrow’s problems before today has begun. Give him clear thinking for the decisions in front of him, and the humility to ask for help when he needs it.

I pray for the people he will meet today, his coworkers, his manager, the ones who report to him and the ones he serves. Soften any tension that is waiting for him, and give him patience with the person who is difficult to work with. Where he is tempted to measure himself by his output or his title, remind him whose he is. Let his work be honest, careful and kind. Protect his body and energy too, so that he returns home with something left to give. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my husband is heading into his work today. Steady his thoughts, give him wisdom for what he must decide, and keep his heart at peace in the middle of pressure. Help him treat the people around him with respect and patience. Let his work honor You, and bring him home to us tonight with his strength renewed. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray this over your husband’s decisions for the day. Ask God to keep him from relying only on his own judgment, and to make his path clear as he goes into meetings and choices that need wisdom.

Psalm 90:17

Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.

(WEB)

Use this verse to ask that the effort of his hands would be blessed and would last. It is a good prayer for the tasks he is responsible for, that they would bear real fruit and not only occupy the hours.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Pray that your husband would see his work as something he does for the Lord, not only for the approval of people. This can steady him on days when the feedback is thin or the recognition does not come.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Ask God to replace the worry your husband may carry into the office with prayer and thanksgiving. Pray that a peace beyond his understanding would guard his heart and mind through the uncertainties of the day.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Bring the weariness of his workload to Jesus in prayer. Ask that he would find rest in God even while the work itself continues, so that he does not carry the whole weight alone.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray this just before their spouse leaves for work, perhaps over coffee or at the door, with a hand resting on his arm. If you are not in the same place, you can pray it in the car on the way to your own work or during a quiet minute at home, naming him and the specific things he mentioned the night before. Keeping a short note of his upcoming deadlines or hard conversations makes the prayer more concrete.

You might also ask one or two trusted people to pray the same words for him on the same morning. Some couples text a single line of the prayer or a verse before the workday starts, which can remind them both that they are not facing the day alone. Pray it again when he texts you about a difficult meeting or a result he is waiting on.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before him in every task today and walk with him through every meeting. May He give him wisdom, steady his heart, and make his work a place where he can serve well and come home whole.
