This is a morning prayer for our family, written to be prayed at the start of the day before the first demands arrive. Pray it aloud as written over the people in your home, or use it as a starting point and speak whatever is on your heart in your own words. It takes about two minutes, so it fits between the coffee maker finishing and the first person coming downstairs.
Morning Prayers for Our Family
Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of another day with the people you have placed in our home. Before the alarms and the lunch boxes and the traffic begin, we bring you our family. Go before each of us into the hours ahead. Steady the early tempers and the slow starts. Help the one who is anxious about school or work to set that worry down in your hands. Help the one who is grieving, tired or unwell to feel your nearness today, even if the feeling is faint.
Give us patience with one another when the bathroom is busy and the car keys are missing. Make our words kind when we are rushed. Show us where a small act of care would mean the most, and give us the willingness to do it. Watch over those who are leaving the house today, whether for work, for class, or for a long drive. Keep them safe and bring them home to us. We trust that you know every person we will meet and every task we will face, and we ask that you go with us into all of it. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, we start this day in your care. Bless our home this morning and fill it with your peace. Guide each person in their work and their learning, and give us grace when we are tired or short with one another. Keep us close to you through the hours ahead, and bring us back together at the end of the day. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a fixed moment that already belongs to your morning, such as while the kettle heats or before anyone checks a phone. Stand or sit near the kitchen table or by the front door, where your family naturally gathers. If you have young children, you might rest a hand on each one’s shoulder or hold hands in a circle while you pray, so that the prayer is something they feel as well as hear.
If other adults share the home, invite them to add one request each, naming the specific person, meeting or task on their mind. You can also pray it alone and then send a short text to a spouse, grandparent or friend asking them to pray the same words over your family during their own morning. Keep the prayer the same from day to day if it helps, and let the specific requests change as your week changes.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless each person in this home and keep them through the day. May he make his face shine upon them and give them peace for the road ahead. Whatever this day holds, may they know they are loved and never walk alone.
