This morning prayer is for the times when you are waiting on something you cannot hurry: an answer, a diagnosis, a job decision, a child’s season of struggle, or a door that has stayed closed longer than you hoped. Pray it first thing, before the phone and the to-do list take over, and read it aloud as written or use it as a starting point for your own words.

Morning Prayer for Waiting Patiently

Lord, I wake up today already aware of what I am waiting for. It sits in my chest before my feet touch the floor. I am tired of checking my email, tired of rehearsing conversations that have not happened, and tired of asking the same questions with no reply. Be near to me in the waiting. Steady my thoughts before they run ahead of you.

Teach me to receive this day as a gift and not as a holding room. Help me greet the people I will meet today, the coworker who needs patience, the child who needs a hand, the friend who needs a call, with a heart that is not fixed on the outcome I cannot control. When my mind drifts to what has not happened yet, bring me back to the next task in front of me. Give me enough grace for the hours I can see and trust you with the ones I cannot.

I ask for a calm that does not depend on my circumstances. I ask for trust that you are working even when I cannot see the work. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am waiting, and I do not like it. Quiet my anxious mind this morning. Help me take the next right step and leave the rest in your hands. Give me patience for the people around me and faith that you are faithful in what I cannot see. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 27:14

Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a command you need to hear again. Ask God to make you strong and steady while you wait, and to remind you that waiting on him is not wasted time.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Bring your tiredness to God with this promise. Ask him to renew your strength for the specific tasks waiting for you today, one step at a time.

Lamentations 3:25

The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.

(WEB)

Read this verse slowly and name the person or situation you hope to see good come from. Ask the Lord to be good to you in the waiting, and to shape your heart to seek him.

Romans 8:25

But if we hope for that which we don’t see, we wait for it with patience.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when hope feels thin. Ask God to help you keep hoping for what you do not yet see, and to give you endurance for the next hour.

James 5:7-8

7 Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain. 8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

(WEB)

Use this passage to pray for patience with the people in your life who are slow to change. Ask God to strengthen your heart so you can wait with steadiness and not bitterness.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray it before you look at your phone, while the house is still quiet. If you have a chair by a window, sit there with a cup of something warm, and let your hands rest in your lap or hold the cup so your body knows it is time to slow down. Read the prayer once aloud and then let the silence after it do its work for a minute or two.

If someone you love is also waiting, pray it for them or with them, perhaps by reading the shorter version over their name. A spouse, a friend, or a small group can pray the words together, which often makes the waiting feel less lonely and the trust a little easier to hold.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who knows exactly what you are waiting for meet you in the quiet of this morning. May he give you steady feet for the next step and a settled heart for the hours ahead. May you rest today in the truth that your God is never late and never absent.
