This prayer is for the month ahead, when a new stretch of days stands in front of you and you are not sure what it will hold. Pray it at the start of the month, on the first morning you have a few quiet minutes, or on the evening before. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words wherever they fit.
Prayer for the Month Ahead
Father, I come to You at the beginning of this month with my calendar open and my heart not entirely settled. I see the appointments and deadlines, the bills and the school forms, the meals to plan and the people who will need me. Some of it I am looking forward to, and some of it makes my stomach tighten. Help me to take the days one at a time instead of trying to carry all thirty of them at once.
Where I am anxious about money, health, work, or the people I love, I ask You to meet me there. Give me wisdom for the decisions I must make and patience for the ones I cannot yet see clearly. Keep my tongue gentle with my family when I am tired, and keep my heart open to the friend who needs a phone call. Show me where I have been too busy to notice the people around me.
Lord, I give You this month as it is, with its hopes and its unknowns. Go before me into each week, and be with me in the places I will not expect. Let me end this month having leaned on You more than I did when it began. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, this month is longer than I can see from here. Be my steadiness on the hard days and my gladness on the good ones. Help me take the next task, then the one after that, trusting You with what comes later. Keep my heart soft toward the people I will meet. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a set time, such as while the coffee brews or just before you open your email, and read the prayer aloud. Keep a pen nearby and jot down any concern that rises as you pray, then leave that paper where you will see it at the end of the week. Many people find it helpful to write the month’s key dates beside the prayer, so each one becomes something to hand to God instead of something to dread.
If you share a home with others, invite them to pray it with you on the first Sunday or the first evening of the month. Ask a close friend to pray the Shorter Version for you on a day you know will be heavy. Praying for one another makes the month lighter, and it reminds you that you are not walking through it alone.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you into every week of this month and walk beside you through every hard day. May He keep your heart at rest and your steps steady, and may you find His faithfulness waiting for you at the end of each day. May the month ahead carry more of His goodness than you expected.
