This list gives you Bible verses to read when you are facing change, whether that means a new job, a move, a diagnosis, a child leaving home, or a season you did not plan. Each group speaks to a different stage of change, from the first uncertain days to the long work of settling into something new.

What these passages share is a steady God who does not change, even when your circumstances do. Each one points you back to his character and presence rather than to the outcome you are hoping for.

Verses for the Night Before Something New Begins

Before a first day, a new diagnosis, or a move, the mind tends to race ahead. These verses slow that down and bring your attention back to the present moment and the One who goes with you into it.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

Joshua received this command as he stood at the edge of a land he had never entered, with Moses gone and the future unclear. Tonight, write the phrase “the Lord your God is with you” on an index card and place it where you will see it first thing in the morning.

Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.

(WEB)

Isaiah speaks to a people facing hardship they could not avoid, and promises God’s presence in the midst of it rather than a route around it. When you feel the first wave of fear about what is coming, pause and name one specific thing you are afraid of, then say it to God in plain words.

Psalm 46:1-2

1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas…

(WEB)

The psalmist describes the ground shifting under the mountains, yet still calls God a refuge close at hand. Before you sleep, take three slow breaths and let each exhale release one worry about tomorrow into God’s hands.

Verses for Trusting God Through Uncertainty

Some changes arrive without a clear map. A layoff, a relationship ending, or a decision with no obvious right answer can leave you guessing. These passages invite you to trust God’s direction even when you cannot see far ahead.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Solomon contrasts leaning on your own understanding with trusting the Lord with your whole heart. When you catch yourself rehearsing every possible outcome, choose one small step you can take today and offer it to God as an act of trust.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Written from the ruins of Jerusalem, these lines find fresh mercy every morning in the middle of loss. Tomorrow, before checking your phone or your inbox, say aloud one thing you have seen God provide in the past year.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Paul writes that God works all things together for good for those who love him, though this does not mean every change feels good while it is happening. Consider one change you are living through now and ask God to show you one way he may be at work in it.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul moves from anxiety straight to prayer, with thanksgiving alongside requests. When worry rises during a transition, write down what you are asking God for and add one thing you are thankful for before you close the note.

Verses for Times of Loss and Letting Go

Change often means leaving something behind, even when the new thing is good. Grief over a home, a role, or a season of life is real, and these verses meet you honestly in that loss.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

The Lord is described as near to the brokenhearted, not distant from them. If grief keeps surfacing at unexpected moments this week, let it come without rushing it, and tell God the honest truth about what you have lost.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven…

(WEB)

The Teacher reminds his readers that every activity has its appointed season, including seasons of ending. When you feel pressure to be finished with the past, give yourself permission to honor what that season meant before turning toward the next one.

Revelation 21:4

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away.”

(WEB)

John’s vision looks ahead to a time when God wipes away every tear and death is no more. Let this verse lift your eyes beyond the current loss, and speak one hope about the future to a friend who has walked through a similar change.

Verses for Building Something New

Once the first shock of change settles, there is the slower work of forming new habits, relationships, and a sense of home. These verses encourage patience and faithfulness as you begin again.

Isaiah 43:19

Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

(WEB)

God declares that he is doing a new thing and asks his people to perceive it. Look for one small sign of newness in your week, such as a kind neighbor, a better routine, or a small sense of relief, and thank God for it by name.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul encourages believers not to grow weary in doing good, because a harvest will come in its time. When new routines feel tedious or slow to bear fruit, choose one faithful action you can repeat daily and trust God with the timing.

Psalm 90:17

Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.

(WEB)

Moses asks that the favor of the Lord rest on the work of our hands and establish it. As you rebuild in a new season, pray over one task you are doing and ask God to make it steady and worthwhile.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

(WEB)

Paul writes that anyone in Christ is a new creation, and the old has passed away. Write this verse on paper and place it beside the place where you start each day, as a reminder that your identity in God does not depend on which season you are in.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses that match the kind of change you are facing right now and write them on a card you can keep in your bag, on your nightstand, or on the lock screen of your phone. Repetition matters more than quantity, so read the same verse for a week rather than rushing through the whole list.

Pray the verses back to God in your own words, adding the specific names of people, places, and decisions that feel heavy. Return to the list whenever a new phase begins, because change tends to come in waves and each wave can call for a different word.

A Short Prayer for when you are facing change

Lord, you know the shape of the change I am living through, including the parts I can name and the parts I cannot yet see. I bring you my plans, my fears, and the things I am grieving. Be near to me in each day, steady my heart when it races, and help me take the next faithful step even when the path ahead is unclear. Let me rest in your character, which does not shift, and trust that you are at work in what I cannot yet understand. Amen.
