This page gives you uplifting Bible verses for the moment you need a fresh start, whether you are beginning a new season, recovering from a setback, or simply wanting to face tomorrow with a clean slate. The verses below share one thread: God makes new things, restores what was broken, and meets people who are willing to turn toward him again.

Verses for the Morning You Want to Begin Again

Some mornings the weight of yesterday sits on your chest before your feet touch the floor. These verses speak to that heaviness and remind you that God’s mercy arrives fresh each day, not as a reward for having done better, but as a gift that belongs to the new day itself.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

The writer of Lamentations sat among ruins, yet he still found reason to hope. When you wake up feeling used up, try saying the phrase “new every morning” out loud while you make coffee, letting it tell you that today’s mercy has not run out.

Psalm 30:5

For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.

(WEB)

This verse admits that night brings weeping, but it does not stop there. Consider the hardest part of yesterday, then write one sentence naming it and one sentence about what might be different by evening, so the night’s sorrow has a clear ending point.

Isaiah 43:18-19

18 “Don’t remember the former things, and don’t consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

(WEB)

God tells the people of Israel not to dwell on former things, because he is doing something new. Choose one old habit or regret you keep replaying, and deliberately set it aside for today by picking a small new action in its place.

Verses for Turning Away from the Past

A fresh start often requires letting go of what you did, what was done to you, or what you keep rehearsing in your mind. These verses describe a God who forgives fully and who calls people to walk forward instead of looking back over their shoulder.

Psalm 103:12

As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

(WEB)

David uses the distance between east and west to describe how far God removes our sins. When guilt returns, picture an open hand releasing something, and tell God you are letting that particular failure go into his keeping.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

(WEB)

Paul says that anyone united with Christ becomes a new creation, and the old life has passed away. Write your name on a card and beneath it write “new creation,” then place the card somewhere you will see it when old labels start speaking up.

Philippians 3:13-14

13 Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do. Forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul describes forgetting what lies behind and straining toward what is ahead. Make a short list of two or three specific steps forward this week, so your attention has somewhere concrete to go instead of circling back.

Micah 7:19

He will again have compassion on us. He will tread our iniquities under foot; and you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

(WEB)

Micah pictures God casting sins into the depths of the sea. If you have confessed something and still feel stuck, remind yourself that God has already dealt with it, and carry on with the work he has placed in front of you today.

Verses for Rebuilding After a Hard Season

Starting again rarely feels like a clean break. It often means slowly rebuilding a life, a relationship, or a sense of purpose after loss or failure. These verses speak to patient restoration and to the God who gathers scattered pieces back together.

Joel 2:25

I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I sent among you.

(WEB)

Joel promises that God will restore the years that locusts have eaten. Make a list of one or two losses you still grieve, and beside each write one small thing that could be rebuilt this month, even if it looks modest.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah says those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. On days when your energy is thin, schedule one short pause, perhaps five minutes outside, and treat it as a deliberate act of waiting rather than wasted time.

Ezekiel 36:26

I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.

(WEB)

God promises a new heart and a new spirit to his people. Ask him specifically for one attitude you want to see changed, such as impatience or bitterness, and watch over the coming weeks for small signs of that change.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Paul writes that God works all things together for good for those who love him. This does not mean every hard thing is good in itself, but it does mean God is present in the rebuilding. Write down one place where you already see something unexpected growing from a difficulty.

Verses to Carry Into an Unfamiliar Step

A fresh start may mean a new job, a move, a new season of parenting, or an honest conversation you have been avoiding. These verses steady you when the next step feels uncertain and remind you that God goes ahead of you.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous as he enters unknown territory. Before your next new step, say the verse aloud in the car or at your desk, letting its repetition quiet your nerves.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Proverbs urges trust in the Lord rather than in your own understanding. When you feel tempted to plan every detail, write down the decision you are facing, then pray over it and take the next reasonable step without needing the whole route mapped out.

Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this…

(WEB)

The psalmist encourages committing your way to the Lord and trusting him to act. Name the situation you are handing over, and each time worry returns, repeat the phrase “committed to God” before turning back to your task.

Lamentations 3:24

“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul. “Therefore I will hope in him.”

(WEB)

The same chapter that speaks of new mercies also says the Lord is our portion, and therefore we hope in him. Consider a small reward or comfort you can allow yourself as you start, a way of receiving God’s goodness in ordinary form.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses that fit your situation most closely rather than trying to memorize the whole list at once. Write them on a card or in a notes app you check each morning, and read them slowly before you check messages or news, so they shape your first thoughts of the day.

When a setback comes, return to the same verses instead of searching for something new each time. Repetition helps them sink in, and you may notice that a verse you skimmed in February speaks clearly in July. Pray the verse back to God in your own words, asking him to make it true in one specific area of your life.

A Short Prayer for when you need a fresh start

Lord, I come to you today needing a fresh start. Some of what I carry feels heavy, and some of it I have carried so long that I forget I can set it down. Thank you that your mercies are new every morning and that you are not finished with me yet. Help me release the failures you have already forgiven, and give me courage for the next small step in front of me. Work in me the new heart you promised, and let my steps today rest on your faithfulness rather than my own strength. Amen.
