When you need strength and cannot find your own, this list gives you Bible verses that point you to where strength actually comes from. It is written for the tired, the anxious, the grieving, and anyone who has reached the end of their own reserves. Each verse is paired with a reflection and one practical way to carry it through your day.

These passages share a common thread. They do not tell you to try harder. They tell you that God is near, that He gives power to the weak, and that you can bring your weariness to Him without pretending to be fine.

Verses for the Morning You Dread the Day Ahead

Some mornings the list of things to do feels heavier than your legs. These verses are for the moment before your feet touch the floor, when strength feels like something you will never find.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes people who wait on the Lord and find their strength renewed, not in the sense of never tiring, but of being lifted again. Try saying this verse aloud while you make your coffee, then pause for a breath before you start the first task.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

The psalmist calls God a refuge and a strength who is always ready to help in trouble. When the morning feels unmanageable, write this verse on a sticky note and place it where you will see it before you leave the house.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Lamentations was written by someone surrounded by ruin, yet this passage declares that God’s mercies are new each morning. Let that promise be the first thing you consider when your eyes open, before the worries arrive.

Verses for When Your Own Strength Has Run Out

There are seasons when you have nothing left to give, not even the energy to pray in full sentences. These passages speak to that exact place of emptiness and show where help is found.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Paul learned that God’s strength shows up most clearly where human strength fails. If you feel weak today, let that admission be an honest starting point for prayer rather than a failure to hide.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

(WEB)

This verse admits that flesh and heart may fail, yet God remains the strength of the heart. When your body and mind are both worn down, name one thing you are leaning on God for and say it to Him plainly.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

(WEB)

Paul writes this from prison, which shows that the strength he describes is not about comfortable circumstances. Read it as a statement of what God supplies in the middle of hardship, not as a promise to conquer every goal.

Psalm 18:1-2

1 I love you, the LORD, my strength. 2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

(WEB)

David piles up images of rock, fortress, and shield to describe God’s protection. Choose one image that fits your situation today and picture it while you pray for the next hour.

Verses for Hard Conversations and Difficult Days

Some days strength is needed for a specific encounter, a phone call you dread, or a choice you must face. These verses are steadying when you have to speak, decide, or stay present in a difficult moment.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

God gives this charge to Joshua as he steps into leadership he did not choose. Before a hard conversation, repeat the core of this verse silently, letting it remind you that the Lord goes with you into the room.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses speaks these words to the Israelites as they face enemies they cannot defeat alone. Consider who in your life needs the same reassurance you do, and let this verse shape how you speak to them today.

Nehemiah 8:10

Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for today is holy to our Lord. Don’t be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

(WEB)

Nehemiah tells a grieving people that the joy of the Lord is their strength. If heaviness is pressing on you, pause and ask God to show you one small reason for gladness today, however modest.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

God promises to strengthen and help His people in fear. When dread builds before a difficult day, remind yourself of the promise in the verse and take one step forward in faith.

Verses for the Long Haul of Caring and Enduring

Strength is often needed not for a single moment but for months of caregiving, illness, grief, or waiting. These passages speak to endurance that lasts beyond a single crisis.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul encourages believers not to grow weary in doing good, reminding them that a harvest will come in its time. When you feel your effort is going unnoticed, mark one small act of faithfulness you completed today.

Romans 5:3-5

3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: 5 and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

(WEB)

Paul links suffering with endurance, character, and hope. Rather than trying to feel grateful for pain, you can ask God to shape endurance in you, one day at a time.

Hebrews 12:1-2

1 Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

(WEB)

The writer urges believers to run with endurance, fixing their eyes on Jesus. When the race feels endless, keep your attention on Christ rather than on how far you still have to go.

Psalm 27:14

Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.

(WEB)

David ends this psalm with a call to wait on the Lord and be strong. On a day when waiting feels unbearable, set a timer for five minutes and sit quietly, offering God your impatience.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus invites the weary and burdened to come to Him for rest. If you are carrying more than you can name, bring it to Him in prayer tonight before you try to sleep.

How to Use These Verses

Write two or three of these verses on index cards and keep them where your hands go most often, such as the kitchen counter, the car dashboard, or your bag. Reading a verse aloud when strength is low tends to work better than trying to remember it from memory in a stressful moment.

Pray the verses back to God in your own words. Turn Isaiah 41:10 into “Lord, I am afraid of this conversation, and You promised to strengthen me,” and let that honest prayer become the bridge between Scripture and your real need.

A Short Prayer for When You Need Strength

Lord, I come to You tired, and I do not have enough strength to pretend otherwise. You know the weight I am carrying, the conversations I dread, and the days that stretch longer than I can manage. Renew what is worn down in me, give me steady courage for the next hour, and remind me that Your mercies are new each morning. Help me rest in Your presence rather than in my own effort. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
