This prayer is for the moment when something new is beginning in your life, whether a new job, a move, a new baby, a diagnosis, an empty nest, a fresh start after a loss, or simply a change you did not expect. You can pray it on the first morning of the new season, at the end of a long day of adjustment, or whenever you feel the ground shifting under you. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words where your heart needs to say more.

Blessings for a New Season

Lord, you see where I am standing right now, and you know how unfamiliar this place feels. Some days I am glad for what is ahead, and other days I am tired from simply trying to keep up. I ask you to steady me in the uncertainty, to help me sleep when my mind keeps running through what could go wrong, and to give me patience with myself as I learn new routines, new faces and new expectations.

Father, go before me into the days I have not yet lived. Open the doors you want me to walk through, and close the ones that would only lead me away from you. Where I feel unprepared, remind me that you have not asked me to be ready in my own strength. Give me wisdom for the decisions in front of me, and let me hear your voice above the many voices offering advice.

I also ask you to bless the people who share this season with me, both those who are close and those I have not yet met. Let my home be a place of peace, let my work be done with integrity, and let me notice the small ways you are already at work. Carry me through the hard hours, and let me rest in the knowledge that you are faithful in every stage of life. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this season is new to me, and I do not yet know my way around it. Be my steady ground. Give me the next step and the strength to take it, and help me trust that you are already here. Bless the people I love, and bless the work of my hands. Teach me to rest in you when the unknown feels heavy. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Isaiah 43:19

Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel that nothing new could possibly grow from where you are. Ask God to show you the new thing he is already doing, even if you can only see the first small shoots of it.

Psalm 121:8

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Use this verse as you step out the door into unfamiliar places. Ask the Lord to guard your comings and goings, and thank him that his watch over you does not end when the season changes.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

Read this slowly when fear is louder than faith. Speak the command aloud as a prayer, asking God to give you courage that comes from his presence rather than from your own confidence.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray these words on mornings when you wake up unsure of how the day will go. Thank God that his mercies are new each morning, and ask him to give you the same freshness for the day ahead.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Bring your worries about the new season to God in prayer, one by one, and name each one specifically. Ask for the peace that guards the heart and mind, especially when sleep is hard to find.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet time to pray this, such as early in the morning before the household wakes or in the car before you walk into a new workplace or school. If your hands tend to fidget when you feel anxious, hold a cup of tea, a pen or a small object that reminds you of God’s presence. Some people find it helpful to write the prayer on an index card and keep it in a pocket or wallet so they can return to it throughout the day.

You might also pray this with a friend, a spouse or a family member who is going through the same change or who simply cares about you. Ask them to pray over you in their own words after you finish reading, and offer to do the same for them. Shared prayer can make a new season feel less lonely and remind you that you are part of a larger community of people trusting God together.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you and beside you in every step of this new season. May he give you peace where you feel unsettled, strength where you feel weak, and joy in the small surprises along the way. May you find that his goodness follows you wherever you go.
