This page offers short prayers for single fathers who are carrying the work of raising children on their own. Pray them in the early morning before the house wakes, in the car between school and work, or late at night when the day’s list is still running in your head. You can read the prayer aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words into the same needs.

Short Prayers for Single Fathers

Lord, you see me at the kitchen counter with the lunches half packed and the permission slip still missing. You know how many hours I work, how tired my body is, and how quiet the house feels when the children are at their mother’s or simply asleep. I do not have a second parent to share the decisions, so I bring every one of them to you. Give me wisdom for the small choices and the large ones, and help me hear your voice above the noise of my own worry.

Father, I ask for patience when a child is angry or withdrawn, and for the humility to say sorry when I get it wrong. Keep me from measuring my worth by how much I provide, and remind me that you are the one who holds my children more tightly than I ever could. Where I feel alone, meet me with your presence. Where I feel I am failing, show me the grace you have already given. Teach me to be both steady and gentle, and let my children see your faithfulness in the way I keep showing up for them.

I also bring you my own heart. Heal the places where grief or disappointment still ache, and guard me from bitterness toward anyone who made this season harder. Give me rest that is real, not just a pause between obligations. Thank you for the moments of laughter that surprise me, and for the children who are growing in ways I can see even when I feel I am not doing enough. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am stretched thin right now. Give me the next right word, the next right step, and enough strength for this one hour. Steady my hands and my voice, and let my children feel your peace through me. Help me trust that you are already at work in them and in me. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

When the weight of parenting alone feels too heavy, pray this verse as a simple confession that God is already your refuge. Name the specific pressure you feel, then thank him that he is near before you have found the right words.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Use this verse when your energy has run out by the middle of the week. Ask God to give you strength you do not have on your own, and let him fill the places where your own reserves are empty.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Bring this promise to the end of a long day, when you are exhausted and the house is finally still. Pray that you would accept Jesus’ invitation to rest, and ask him to show you what rest looks like for you this week.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray these verses when you face a decision about school, money, custody, or discipline and do not know which way to turn. Ask God to guide your steps, and commit the outcome to his wisdom rather than your fear.

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

(WEB)

This verse reminds you that the work of raising your children does not rest on your effort alone. Pray it as a release, asking God to build what you cannot build by yourself and to keep watch over your home.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose one fixed moment each day, such as the drive to work, the few minutes after the children are in bed, or the walk to the bus stop, and let that become your regular time with God. If your hands are busy with dishes, laundry, or driving, pray the words quietly as you move. You can also invite a trusted friend, a pastor, or a family member to pray this prayer over you, and ask them to pray it for you on the days you cannot find the words yourself.

Keep a note on your phone or a card in your wallet with one line from the prayer that matters most to you this week. When a hard moment arrives, read that line aloud before you respond to your child. Over time, these short prayers become a habit that carries you through the ordinary and the difficult alike.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who sees you in the early morning and in the late night strengthen you for each task before you. May he steady your heart, guard your children, and remind you that you are not carrying this alone. May you rest in his faithfulness and grow in his peace today and every day.
