This list gives caregivers a set of Scripture passages to hold onto when the work of looking after someone else leaves you tired, worried, or quietly overwhelmed. Each group below addresses a different part of the day, from the early hours before anyone else is awake to the lonely evenings when the house finally goes quiet. What these verses share is a steady focus on God’s nearness, his strength given to people who have run out of their own, and his care for the one doing the caring as well as the one being cared for.

Verses for the Early Hours Before the Day Begins

Many caregivers wake before the sun already carrying a list of medications, appointments, and needs. These passages speak to that first hour, when the weight of the coming day is heaviest and before any of it has actually happened.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

The writer of Lamentations speaks in the middle of real grief, yet he remembers that God’s mercies are renewed each morning. Before you check a single message or dose a single pill, you can say the words aloud and ask for that day’s portion of mercy, trusting it will be there again when you need it.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

This verse calls God a refuge and a strength, present and easy to find in trouble. Keep it on a sticky note near the coffee maker, and when a hard moment arrives, pause for one breath and remember that you do not face it on your own.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Isaiah says God gives power to the faint and strength to those who have no might. Caregivers often feel they have nothing left to give, and this verse names that exact condition as the place where God chooses to act, so you can bring your empty reserves to him rather than pretending they are full.

Verses for the Hard Moments of Care

Some moments of caregiving come with fear, frustration, or sudden emergencies. These passages are meant for the times when you are in the middle of a difficult task and need God’s peace to reach you there.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul invites believers to bring their anxieties to God in prayer and promises a peace that guards the heart and mind. When worry about a fall, a test result, or a sleepless night rises, try turning each worry into a short, specific prayer, naming it plainly before God.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

This verse urges the reader to cast their burden on the Lord, who will sustain them. Caregivers carry burdens that never fully lift, so practice setting one at a time down in prayer, then picking up only the task in front of you.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus calls the weary and burdened to come to him and find rest. Many caregivers are weary in body and spirit, and this invitation is for you as much as anyone. Take a few minutes in a quiet place simply to accept that rest, even if the rest is only a pause before the next task.

2 Corinthians 12:9

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

(WEB)

Paul hears God say that his grace is sufficient and that power is made perfect in weakness. When you feel you are failing at the job, remember that your limits are not a sign that God has stopped working through you. Write this verse on a card and read it on the days you feel least capable.

Verses for Rest, Patience, and Renewal

Caregiving can drain your patience and steal your sleep, and it can make rest feel like something you have not earned. These passages remind you that God designed rest, that he sees your perseverance, and that he is patient with you when your own patience runs thin.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

The psalmist observes that God gives sleep to his beloved, a gift and not a reward for finishing everything. If guilt keeps you awake, let this verse give you permission to rest, trusting that the work will not collapse because you stopped for an hour.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul writes that believers should not grow weary in doing good, because a harvest will come at the proper time. On the long stretches of routine care, when progress feels invisible, use this promise to measure your faithfulness by obedience rather than visible results.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

God tells his people not to fear, because he is with them and will strengthen and help them. In the nights when you lie awake listing what could go wrong, repeat the promise of God’s presence until your breathing slows and your thoughts settle.

Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered.

(WEB)

Paul writes that the Spirit helps us in our weakness, even when we do not know how to pray as we ought. If words fail you at the bedside or in the car after a hard appointment, you can simply sit with God in silence and trust that he understands what you cannot say.

How to Use These Verses

Write a few of these verses on index cards and keep them where you will see them most, such as on the bathroom mirror, inside a kitchen cabinet, or saved as a phone wallpaper. Choose one verse for the week rather than trying to memorize all fifteen at once, and let it become familiar before moving to the next.

Pray the verses instead of only reading them. Turn a passage into a sentence addressed to God, such as “Lord, you are my refuge right now,” and speak it during a difficult task or on the drive home. Keeping a short notebook of which verses helped on which days can also remind you later how faithfully God met you in the hardest seasons.

A Short Prayer for Caregivers

Lord, you see the early mornings, the long afternoons, and the quiet nights that no one else notices. You know the weight I carry and the fear that rises when I am tired. Give me strength for the next task and grace for the moments I fall short. Remind me that you are near, that your mercies are new each morning, and that my weakness does not limit your power. Help me rest when I need rest, and receive the care I give as an offering to you. Amen.
