This is a prayer for faith and trust, written for the moments when you want to believe God is at work but find your confidence slipping. You can pray it in the morning before the day’s demands arrive, late at night when worry keeps you awake, or whenever you feel the pull to take control. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Christian Prayer for Faith and Trust

Father, I come to you because I am tired of carrying things that were never mine to carry alone. I have been turning the same questions over in my mind: whether the job will work out, whether the diagnosis will get better, whether my children are going to be all right, whether my prayers are even being heard. Some days I say I trust you and then spend the whole afternoon planning how to fix everything myself. Forgive me for that. Help me see that my worry does not add a single hour to my life, and that you already know the outcome I am so afraid of.

Lord, steady my heart where it shakes. Quiet the voice that tells me I am alone, and replace it with the truth that you have been faithful to every generation that came before me, and to me in every season I have lived through so far. When I cannot see the path ahead, let me take the next step anyway, trusting that you can see the whole road. Give me the courage to hand you the things I keep grabbing back, one at a time if I need to. I do not need to understand everything today. I only need to know who holds it.

Teach me to rest in your character more than in my circumstances. Remind me that your love does not depend on how well I perform, and that your purposes are not undone by my doubts. Where my faith is small, make it grow. Where my trust is thin, make it strong enough to stand on. I give you this day, this worry, and this future, and I ask you to receive them as an offering. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am anxious right now and I do not want to hide it from you. Help me breathe and remember that you are near. I trust you with what I cannot control, and I ask for enough faith to take the next small step. Strengthen what is weak in me and steady my heart. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray these words slowly, naming one area where your own understanding keeps pulling you back. Ask God to straighten the path you cannot yet see, and thank him for the promise that he will make your way clear.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

(WEB)

Use this verse in the middle of a fearful moment. Say it out loud, and then say the word “when” in place of “if,” admitting that fear will come while declaring that you will still choose to trust.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Pray this for a restless mind. Ask God to keep your thoughts fixed on him instead of spinning through every possible outcome, and notice how often your attention drifts back to the things you fear.

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.

(WEB)

Bring this verse to God when you feel you have nothing concrete to hold. Ask him to make the hope you have in him feel more substantial, even when the evidence around you is still incomplete.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Pray this when you are tempted to believe a hard season has no purpose. Thank God that he works in all things, and ask him to show you where he is already weaving good into the difficulty you are facing.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet place where you will not be interrupted, even if it is only a parked car or a corner of the kitchen before the house wakes up. Keep a pen and paper nearby. As you pray, write down the specific worries you name, then fold the paper or set it somewhere visible as a physical sign that you have handed them over. Returning to that paper later can remind you that you have already prayed about it.

If you struggle to trust God alone, invite someone you trust to pray this with you, or to pray it for you when you feel too weary to speak. A friend, a spouse, or a small group can carry your request while your faith is being rebuilt. Trust grows in community as well as in solitude, and there is no shame in asking others to hold the line with you.

A Blessing to Close

May the God who has been faithful to you in every past season give you steady courage for the days ahead. May his peace guard your heart and his nearness keep you from feeling alone. May your trust in him grow deeper with each step, and may you rest in the knowledge that you are held.
