This night prayer for healing and comfort is written for the end of the day, when the body is tired and the mind will not quiet down. Pray it at bedtime, sitting on the edge of the bed or lying still with the lights off, to hand your pain, worry and weariness to God before you sleep. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Night Prayer for Healing and Comfort
Lord, the day is ending and I am still carrying what it held. My body aches in the places I have been ignoring, and I have not told anyone how tired I really am. I bring you the pain that keeps me awake, the test results I am afraid to think about, and the fear that tomorrow will bring more of the same. You see every part of me, and nothing I feel is too small or too much for you to hold.
Be near to the one who is hurting tonight, whether that is me or someone I love. Touch the sore places with your healing, and where healing has not come yet, give steady comfort that lets them rest. Quiet the racing thoughts and remind my heart that you are awake while I sleep. Guard my going out and my coming in, and keep watch over the people I love in the hours I cannot.
Thank you for the small mercies of this day: the warm drink, the kind word, the moment of quiet. Let me lay down the weight of tomorrow’s unknowns in your hands and trust you with what I cannot control. Give me sleep that restores and a morning that finds me closer to you than I was tonight. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I am tired and hurting, and I do not have the words for everything tonight. Hold me in your care. Heal what can be healed, comfort what cannot yet be fixed, and be with the people I love who are also suffering. Let me sleep in your peace and wake in your strength. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet time near the end of your evening routine, after the lights are dimmed and before you climb into bed. You might sit with your hands open in your lap or rest one hand over the place that hurts. Reading the prayer slowly, with a pause after each paragraph, gives your thoughts room to settle and lets God’s comfort come in before sleep.
If you are praying for someone else, read the prayer aloud in the same room or over the phone, adding their name where it fits. A spouse, a close friend or a parent can join in with a closing “Amen,” and that shared prayer can ease the loneliness of a long night. Keep a notebook by the bed so you can write down what you are releasing and return to it in the morning.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who keeps watch over you give you rest tonight and healing in his time. May his peace settle over every ache and worry, and may you wake knowing you were held through the dark.
