This simple prayer is for the times you want to bring your brother before God but are not sure what to say. Pray it when you think of him in the morning, when you hear news about him, or when a quiet moment reminds you that he is on your heart. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where they fit.

Simple Prayer for My Brother

Father, I bring my brother to you today. You know him completely, from the way he laughs to the things he carries that no one else sees. I ask that you would walk with him in every season he is in right now, whether it is full of certainty or full of questions. Give him rest when he is weary, and let him sense that he is not alone in whatever he faces.

Lord, I pray for his heart. Guard it from bitterness and from fear, and fill it with the kind of peace only you can give. Where he is struggling with work, money, health, or relationships, show him the next faithful step and give him wisdom to take it. Surround him with people who care for him well and who point him back to you.

Thank you that you love him more than I ever could, and that your plans for him are good even when I cannot see them. Help me to love him patiently, to speak kindly, and to trust you with the parts of his life I cannot change. Draw him close to yourself, and let our family be a place where grace is known. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my brother is on my mind right now. Be with him in whatever he is facing today. Give him strength where he is weak, peace where he is anxious, and hope where things feel dark. Keep him close to you, and let him know how deeply you love him. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Numbers 6:24-26

24 ‘The LORD bless you, and keep you. 25 The LORD make his face to shine on you, and be gracious to you. 26 The LORD lift up his face toward you, and give you peace.’

(WEB)

Pray this blessing over your brother as a way of asking God to keep him, shine his face upon him, and bring him peace. It is a direct request you can speak in his name, reminding you that God’s care for him is steady and personal.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Use this verse to pray for your brother’s coming and going, the everyday movements of his life and the bigger transitions too. Ask God to watch over him in both, trusting that he is never outside the reach of God’s protection.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

When your brother is anxious, pray this passage on his behalf and ask God to replace his worry with a peace that makes sense of nothing on the surface. You can also pray it for yourself as you hand your concern for him over to the Lord.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Bring your brother’s hardest circumstances to God using this promise. Ask that he would see, in time, how God is working even through what feels broken, and that you would trust that same work in your own life.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

(WEB)

Pray this verse by asking God to help you carry your brother’s burdens in practical ways, and to help him feel supported when he is struggling. It turns your prayer toward action, asking God to make you a helper where he needs one.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time to pray for your brother, such as first thing in the morning with your coffee or in the car before you start your day. Keep a note on your phone or a small card with his name so you remember to pray even on busy days. Many people find it helpful to pray with their hands open in their lap, as a physical sign that they are placing their brother in God’s hands.

You do not need to pray this alone. Ask a spouse, a close friend, or your church small group to pray with you for him, and let them know specific needs so they can join you in asking God for help. Over time, you may notice that your own heart toward your brother grows softer and more patient as you keep returning to him in prayer.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your brother and keep him in every step he takes. May the Lord’s face shine on him with grace, and may he find peace that holds steady through every change. And may you, who pray for him, be sustained by the same faithful love that you are asking God to pour out on him.
