This daily prayer for my employees is for anyone who leads, manages or simply works alongside people whose days, families and burdens they carry in some measure. Pray it at the start of the workday, before the first meeting or the first email, when the day still feels open. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words about the particular people on your team.

Daily Prayer for My Employees

Lord, I bring my employees to you before the day begins. You know each of their names, and you know the things they carry home at night and bring back in the morning: a sick parent, a child who is struggling at school, a bill they are not sure how to pay, a marriage under strain, a worry about their own health that they have not told anyone. Be near to each of them today. Give them strength for the work in front of them and rest for the weariness that has built up over these weeks.

Father, give me wisdom in how I lead them. Help me to notice when someone is quiet because they are overwhelmed rather than because they are disengaged. Let me be fair when fairness is costly, honest when honesty is hard, and generous with credit when it would be easier to keep it for myself. Guard my tongue in frustration and my heart against impatience. Where I have failed them in the past, forgive me, and show me how to make it right.

Protect them from harm in the workplace and on the road as they travel to and from their jobs. Guard their families while they are away. Give them good relationships with one another, so that no one stands alone on a difficult day, and let our work together reflect your care for the people who do it. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my team is in front of me and you know every one of them. Give each person what they need today, whether that is patience, courage, clear thinking or a kind word from someone who notices. Help me lead with honesty and grace, and keep us all from carrying more than we should alone. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 2:4

Each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a check on your own attention. Ask God to turn your focus away from your own deadlines long enough to see what your employees are facing, and to care about their interests as seriously as you care about your own.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Pray this for the way your team approaches their work, that they would do it with sincerity and care even when no one is watching. Ask that the work itself would feel like service offered to God, not only a task to be finished.

Proverbs 11:14

Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory.

(WEB)

Pray this for wise counsel within your workplace. Ask God to surround you and your team with people who think clearly, speak honestly and help you make good decisions before problems grow.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

(WEB)

Pray this when someone on your team is carrying a heavy load. Ask God to show you how to help bear that burden in practical ways, so that no one has to struggle through a hard season without support.

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray this for the safety of your employees as they go out and come back in, whether to the office, the factory floor or the road home. Ask the Lord to keep their going out and their coming in under his watch from now on.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time you can keep most days, such as the few minutes after you arrive and before the first meeting, or while you walk to your desk with a cup of coffee. A printed copy kept on your desk or a note on your phone helps you return to it when the day gets busy. Some leaders find it helpful to pray while looking at a list of their team members, speaking each name briefly as they go.

If you have a close colleague or a pastor who knows your workplace, invite them to pray this with you once a week, or ask your team if anyone would like to be prayed for by name. Keep private confidences private, and let your prayer for each person stay as specific as they would be comfortable with. Over time you will notice how your sense of the people you lead begins to change.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless each person on this team and keep them in his care. May he give them steady hands for their work, quiet hearts in their hardest hours and good company when they need it. May he make them a blessing to one another and to everyone they serve.
