Short Prayer for My Employees: Words to Pray for Your Team

This short prayer is for the people you lead at work, whether that is a handful of staff or a large team. It is meant to be prayed in the morning before the workday begins, during a hard week, or before a difficult conversation. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words for each person on your team.

Short Prayer for My Employees

Lord, thank You for the people You have placed in my care at work. Each one of them is known by You, and each one carries something into the building every day that I cannot see: a sick parent, a mortgage, a child who did not sleep, a worry about whether they are good enough. Please meet them where they are this morning. Give them steady hands, clear minds and enough rest to do their work well.

Help me to lead them with honesty and kindness. Where I have been impatient, forgive me, and give me the grace to say so. Where someone is struggling with their work or their confidence, show me how to encourage them without flattering them and how to correct them without crushing them. Protect them from careless words, from unfair pressure and from the quiet fear that they do not matter. Let our workplace be a place where people can tell the truth and be treated fairly. Make me a leader who looks out for their good as much as the company’s results. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my team is carrying more than I can see. Be near each person today, especially the ones who are quiet or stretched thin. Give them wisdom, patience and peace, and help me speak to them with honesty and care. Guard their families and their health, and let them go home tonight knowing they were valued. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 2:4

Each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.

(WEB)

Paul asks us to look beyond our own interests. Pray this for your employees by asking God to show you where you have been focused only on your own goals, and where you need to notice what each person on your team needs.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

When a team faces a decision or a problem with no clear answer, these verses remind us to trust God rather than our own assumptions. Pray them over the choices your employees are making and over your own decisions as their leader.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

This verse reframes ordinary work as service to the Lord. Pray that each employee would find meaning in their tasks, even the routine ones, and that they would sense God’s presence in the middle of their workday.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

(WEB)

Carrying one another’s burdens is a daily practice in a workplace under pressure. Ask God to help your team notice when a colleague is overloaded and to give you the willingness to share the weight rather than leave someone to struggle alone.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Many people arrive at work already exhausted from the rest of their lives. Pray that your employees would find rest in Jesus, and that this promise would steady them when deadlines and demands press hard against them.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many leaders find it helpful to pray this before the first meeting of the day, or in the quiet minutes before you open your email. Choose a place where you can be still for a moment, such as your desk, your car before you go in, or a corner of the break room. Keeping a short list of your team’s names on a notecard or in your phone can help you remember who is facing what this week, and you can hold that card in your hands as you pray.

You might also invite someone else to pray with you, perhaps a trusted colleague, a pastor or a small group from your church. Ask them to pray for your employees by name, and invite them to share what they are learning about leading with grace. Over time, the prayer becomes less of a recited text and more of a habit of seeing each person the way God sees them.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless each person on your team with strength for the day and rest for the night. May He keep their families safe, their work meaningful and their hearts at peace. May they know they are seen, valued and loved by the One who made them.
