This evening prayer is for anyone who is sick or recovering and wants to bring the day’s weariness, pain and uncertainty to God before sleep. Pray it at bedtime, once the day’s medicine, meals and rest have been handled. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words into it.
Evening Prayer for Recovery From Illness
Lord, the day is ending, and I am tired in body and in spirit. I have carried this illness through the hours: the aching, the fever or the fog, the long stretches of lying still while the world kept moving outside the window. Thank You for every small mercy today, for the cup of water someone brought, the sleep that came in pieces, the doctor who listened, and the friend who called. Help me to set down the worries about tomorrow’s test results, the bills piling up, and the fear of how long this will last.
Be my rest tonight. Guard my body while it heals and quiet the thoughts that circle when the lights go out. Strengthen my immune system, steady my breathing, and ease the pain where it lingers. Give wisdom to those who care for me, and patience to me when progress feels slow. If sleep is hard to find, keep me company in the dark and remind me that You do not sleep and You are watching over me. Whatever tomorrow brings, I place my recovery in Your hands. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am worn out tonight, and I am asking for healing. Thank You for getting me through today. Ease the pain, calm my worry, and let my body rest and repair while I sleep. Be near me in the quiet, and help me trust You with tomorrow. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside

This verse is a bedtime promise. Pray it slowly when you cannot sleep, letting each line remind you that rest is a gift God still gives, even when your body feels unsettled.
Psalm 121:3-4
3 He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

Use these verses to picture God as a watchful keeper through the night. When fear of the dark or of the next day rises, pray that He would keep you as you sleep.
Psalm 41:3
The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed, and restore him from his bed of illness.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
(WEB)
Jesus’ invitation fits the end of a long sick day. Pray this verse by naming one burden at a time and asking Him to take it from you.
How to Pray This Prayer
Pray it at the end of the evening, after you have taken your medicine and settled into bed or your chair. Keep a glass of water and a box of tissues nearby so you are not getting up in the dark, and let your hands rest open on the blanket or hold a smooth stone or a rosary to keep your attention from drifting. Whisper the words if speaking feels like too much.
If someone in your home or a friend is able, invite them to pray it with you or over you, one line at a time. Those who love you can also pray it for you on the nights you are too tired to say it yourself. Ending with a few quiet minutes of silence gives the prayer room to settle before you sleep.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who keeps watch over you give you deep and gentle rest tonight. May He steady your body, calm your mind, and carry the weight you could not set down today. May His peace guard you through every hour of the night, and may morning bring you one step nearer to health.
