These prayers for Easter give you words to thank God for the resurrection of Jesus and to ask him to make that hope real in your life. You can pray them on Easter morning, during a sunrise service, at the family table, or any time the celebration of Christ’s victory over death feels distant. Read them aloud as written, or let them be a starting point for your own words.
Prayers for Easter
Lord Jesus, you walked out of the tomb on the third day, and the stone that seemed so final could not hold you. Thank you that the story did not end at the cross. On this Easter morning I bring you the gladness in my heart and also the grief I have carried this year, the people I miss, and the worries I have not been able to set down. Meet me in the middle of both.
Father, help me to live as someone who believes that death does not get the last word. Where I feel tired, make me strong. Where I feel afraid, remind me that you have already faced the worst and come through it. Let the joy of the empty tomb spill into my ordinary Monday, my hard conversations, and my quiet evenings. Give my family and friends the same living hope I am asking for myself.
Thank you for loving me enough to die for me and rise again. I praise you for the new life you offer today. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Risen Jesus, thank you that you are alive and that you are with me right now. Turn my fear into trust and my sorrow into hope. Help me to walk in the light of your resurrection today, one step at a time, knowing that you have already overcome. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
1 Corinthians 15:55-57
55 “Death, where is your sting? Hades, where is your victory?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Pray these words as a song of thanks, naming the things in your life that still feel like the sting of death. Ask God to let his victory speak louder than your fear, and thank him that the battle has already been won.
John 11:25-26
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. 26 Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
(WEB)
Read this slowly and let Jesus speak directly to you as the resurrection and the life. Pray that you would believe these words in the places where belief feels hardest, especially for someone you love who is far from God.
Romans 6:4
We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.
(WEB)
Use this verse to ask God to help you walk in newness of life this week. Name one habit or attitude you want to leave behind and ask for the strength to live differently because Christ is risen.
Psalm 118:24
This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!
(WEB)
Let this verse set the tone of your prayer. Thank God for the day he has given, even if it looks different from what you hoped, and ask him to help you rejoice in it as a gift from his hand.
Matthew 28:5-6
5 The angel answered the women, “Don’t be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus, who has been crucified. 6 He is not here, for he has risen, just like he said. Come, see the place where the Lord was lying.
(WEB)
Pray this passage as the women at the tomb might have, hearing the angel’s message for the first time. Ask God to help you hear that same good news with fresh ears and to believe that he is not where death leaves people.
How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find it helpful to pray these words early in the morning, before the day’s noise begins. Sit near a window if you can, and let the light remind you of the empty tomb. You might hold a cup of coffee or a small cross in your hands while you speak, giving your body something to do while your heart catches up with the words.
You can also pray this prayer with others. Read it aloud at the breakfast table, in a church service, or with a grandparent or friend who is struggling this season. Take turns adding your own sentences of thanks and requests, so that the prayer becomes the shared voice of the people gathered around you.
A Blessing to Close
May the risen Christ go before you into every corner of this Easter season. May his peace guard your heart, his light fill your home, and his hope steady you when the day feels heavy. May you know, deep down, that you are loved by the one who conquered the grave.
