This list gathers Scripture passages about daily bread, the everyday provision God gives and the trust he asks of us to receive it. It is written for anyone who wants to pray over tomorrow’s groceries, a shrinking paycheck, or simply the next meal without worry. Across these passages, a few themes repeat: God feeds his people, he does so day by day, and he invites us to ask him plainly for what we need.

Verses for Asking God Plainly for Today’s Needs

Jesus taught his followers to pray for bread, and he chose a small, ordinary request on purpose. These verses show that asking for what you need today is a natural part of trusting God.

Matthew 6:11

Give us today our daily bread.

(WEB)

This is the prayer Jesus gave for the daily need. Try saying it as you start your morning, naming one specific need you are carrying into the day.

Luke 11:3

Give us day by day our daily bread.

(WEB)

Luke records the same request in a shorter form, which suggests it was meant to be easy to repeat. Keep a short version of it on a sticky note near your kitchen sink.

Philippians 4:19

My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul wrote this to a church that had shared generously with him. When money feels tight, look at the list of bills and pray this verse over the one you are most afraid of.

Verses About God Feeding Us Day by Day

Israel in the wilderness received manna each morning and was told to gather only what they needed for that day. These passages show a God who provides steadily rather than all at once.

Exodus 16:4

Then the LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from the sky for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.

(WEB)

God gave manna in measured portions so his people would learn to depend on him daily. Before you open your banking app, pause and thank him for the provision already in your hands.

Psalm 145:15-16

15 The eyes of all wait for you. You give them their food in due season. 16 You open your hand, and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

(WEB)

The psalmist describes God as the one who gives food at the proper time. Notice the creatures in your neighborhood this week, and let them remind you that God’s care reaches far beyond your own table.

Psalm 104:27-28

27 These all wait for you, that you may give them their food in due season. 28 You give to them; they gather. You open your hand; they are satisfied with good.

(WEB)

Here the psalmist says all creatures look to God for food and receive it from his open hand. Use this passage when you eat a meal, making the blessing before the bread a conscious act of looking to God.

Proverbs 30:8

Remove far from me falsehood and lies. Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food that is needful for me…

(WEB)

Agur asks God to give him neither poverty nor riches, only his daily bread. Consider writing this request on a card and carrying it in your wallet during a season of financial uncertainty.

Verses for Trusting God When the Pantry Runs Low

Scripture does not pretend that hunger never comes. These verses speak to the fear and waiting that come with thin seasons and show that God remains present within them.

Psalm 37:25

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread.

(WEB)

David writes from long experience, observing that he has not seen the righteous abandoned to hunger. When fear rises at the grocery store, repeat this line slowly and let it steady your breathing.

1 Kings 17:14

For the LORD, the God of Israel says, ‘The jar of meal will not run out, and the jar of oil will not fail, until the day that the LORD sends rain on the earth.’”

(WEB)

The widow of Zarephath shared her last meal with Elijah, and God kept her jar of flour and jug of oil from running out. Tell this story to a friend who is going through a hard month, as a reminder that God keeps supplies going in unexpected ways.

Matthew 6:31-33

31 “Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.

(WEB)

Jesus tells his listeners not to worry about food or clothing because the Father knows what they need. Each morning, set down one worry in a notebook and tell God about it before you begin your work.

Psalm 34:9-10

9 Oh fear the LORD, you his saints, for there is no lack with those who fear him. 10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger, but those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

(WEB)

This psalm promises that those who seek the Lord will lack no good thing. Read it slowly on a day when you feel behind, and let the word “lack” be examined against what you actually have.

Hebrews 13:5

Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, “I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.”

(WEB)

The writer urges contentment and reminds believers that God has promised never to leave them. Use this verse when comparing your situation to others, and turn each comparison into a prayer of thanks.

Verses for Sharing Bread With Others

Daily bread is never only for ourselves. These passages connect God’s provision to generosity, showing that the bread we receive is meant to be shared.

Isaiah 58:7

Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?

(WEB)

Isaiah describes a fast that God honors, one that includes sharing food with the hungry. Think of one person in your church or street who could use a meal this week, and act on it.

Acts 2:46

Day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart…

(WEB)

The early believers ate together with glad and sincere hearts. Invite someone to share a simple meal with you this month, even if the table is small.

Matthew 14:19-20

19 He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave to the multitudes. 20 They all ate, and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.

(WEB)

Jesus blessed the loaves, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to distribute, and everyone had enough. Before you give away food, pray over it as Jesus did, trusting that God can multiply what a small gift can do.

2 Corinthians 9:10

Now may he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness…

(WEB)

Paul writes that God supplies seed for the sower and bread for food, and that generosity leads to thanksgiving. Keep this verse in mind when you decide where to give, and tell God you want your giving to produce gratitude in others.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three of these passages that fit your current season, and write them where you will see them daily, such as on the inside of a cupboard door or on your phone’s lock screen. A brief reading in the morning, before the day’s demands arrive, works well for most people. Reading the same verse for a full week often reveals more than reading ten different ones once.

When you pray with these verses, speak your specific needs aloud and then read the passage back to God as your reply. You may find it helpful to write the date next to each prayer, so you can look back later and see how faithfully he has provided. Over time, the list becomes a record of God’s daily care.

A Short Prayer for Daily Bread

Lord, you know what I need today, and you care about even the smallest details of my life. Give me bread for this day, and help me receive it with a thankful heart rather than a restless one. Where my pantry feels empty, teach me to trust you, and where I have more than enough, show me who I can share with. Keep me from worrying about tomorrow, and remind me that you are faithful each morning. Amen.
