This list gives you Bible verses about endurance, grouped by the situations where staying faithful is hardest: long seasons of waiting, days when you are simply tired, and the slow work of running your race with God. It is written for anyone who needs something solid to hold on to when the road feels longer than expected. These verses share a common thread: endurance is not produced by willpower alone, but by God’s presence, promises and patient shaping of our lives.

Verses for the Long Haul of Waiting

Some endurance is quiet. It looks like getting up, showing up and trusting when nothing visible has changed. The verses in this group speak to people who are waiting on answers, outcomes or relief that has not yet come.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul writes this to people who are tempted to quit doing good because the results are slow. Choose one ordinary good thing you can keep doing this week, such as a kind text or a faithful prayer, and do it without needing to see the harvest yet.

Psalm 27:14

Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.

(WEB)

David repeats the call to wait, which tells you waiting is hard for him too. Try naming one thing you are waiting for and speaking it to God each morning, then notice how your heart settles as you go about your day.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

The image here is of birds rising on wind currents rather than flapping furiously. When you feel depleted, ask God to renew your strength today, and give yourself permission to rest instead of pushing harder on your own power.

Verses for Days When You Are Worn Out

Endurance is not only about big trials. Sometimes it is simply the exhaustion of carrying responsibilities, illness, grief or constant demands. These verses meet you in that tired place.

2 Corinthians 4:16

Therefore we don’t faint, but though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day.

(WEB)

Paul admits that the body wears down while the inner person can still be renewed. Notice where you are physically worn out today, and at the same moment, ask God to refresh the inner part of you that no one else sees.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Jesus does not tell the weary to try harder. He invites them to come to him. Before your next demanding task, pause for a minute and bring the exact weight you are carrying into a simple prayer.

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

(WEB)

The psalmist admits his flesh and heart are failing, yet God remains his strength. When you feel your own reserves running low, write this verse on a card and read it aloud when your energy dips in the afternoon.

Verses for Pressing On in Your Faith

Enduring is also a spiritual discipline. These verses speak to the daily choice to keep trusting, keep praying and keep following Jesus when the way is long or the pace is slow.

Hebrews 12:1

Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us…

(WEB)

The writer pictures faith as a race with a crowd of witnesses cheering from the stands. Before you start a hard task, name one thing you need to set aside, such as worry or comparison, so you can run with less weight.

Romans 5:3-4

3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope…

(WEB)

Paul traces a chain from suffering to endurance to character to hope. Instead of asking why a difficulty came, try asking what God might be forming in you through it, and keep a short journal of the small changes you notice.

James 1:12

Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.

(WEB)

James speaks of the blessing that comes to the one who remains steady under trial. Look for one faithful act this week, such as reading Scripture or serving quietly, and offer it to God as an expression of your steady trust.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Even in a book of grief, the writer remembers that God’s mercies are renewed each morning. When you wake up feeling that yesterday was too much, begin the day by thanking God for a fresh supply of his faithfulness.

Verses for Endurance Through Suffering

Some seasons bring real pain, loss or opposition. The verses here do not pretend the hardship is small, but they point to a God who stays close and who finishes what he begins.

Romans 8:18

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us.

(WEB)

Paul compares present suffering with the glory yet to be revealed, and he does so from experience. If today feels heavy, name the pain honestly to God, then ask him to lift your eyes toward the hope that is still ahead.

Psalm 34:19

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

(WEB)

This verse does not promise an absence of trouble, but it does promise that the Lord is near and that trouble does not have the final word. Speak this verse aloud during a difficult moment and let it steady your breathing.

1 Peter 5:10

But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

(WEB)

Peter writes to believers facing persecution and promises that God will restore, strengthen and establish them after suffering. Pray this verse over someone else who is going through a hard season, and ask God to be the strength they need.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses that speak to your current season rather than trying to memorize the whole list at once. Write them on an index card, in the notes app on your phone, or on the inside cover of your Bible, and place them where you will see them during your usual routine, such as the bathroom mirror, the kitchen counter or your car dashboard.

Read each verse slowly, then pause and pray it back to God in your own words. Ask him to show you where it applies today. Returning to the same verse over several weeks often reveals new meaning as your circumstances change, so let a verse stay with you rather than moving on too quickly.

A Short Prayer for Endurance

Lord, you see how long this road has been and how tired I am. I confess that I want relief more than I want to trust you right now. Renew my strength the way you promised, so that I can keep going without losing heart. Where I feel empty, fill me with your presence, and where I am tempted to quit, remind me of the good work you are doing in me. Help me take the next faithful step today, and trust you with the steps beyond it. Amen.
