This list gives you King James Version Bible verses for the moments when you need to begin again, whether after a failure, a loss, a move, a hard season, or simply a day that went wrong. The verses below are shown in the KJV, and each one comes with a short reflection on how it applies to a fresh start. These verses share a common thread: God is the one who makes new, and a new beginning rests on his faithfulness rather than on your ability to get everything right.

Verses for Accepting a Fresh Beginning

Starting over often begins with accepting that the past does not have the final word. These verses speak directly to God’s power to make things new, and they are a good place to start when the old pattern still feels like it is pulling you back.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

(KJV)

Paul writes that anyone in Christ is a new creation, which means your identity is not fixed by what you have done before. Carry this with you by naming one old label you are ready to set down and replacing it with the truth God speaks over you.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

(KJV)

Lamentations was written in the ruins of Jerusalem, yet this passage insists that God’s mercies are renewed every morning. When you wake up feeling like you have already failed the day, remind yourself of this promise before you check your phone.

Isaiah 43:18-19

18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

(KJV)

God tells the people not to dwell on former things, because he is doing something new. This does not erase what happened, but it gives you permission to stop replaying it. Try writing down one new thing you are willing to attempt this week.

Verses for Facing the Hard Days Ahead

A new start rarely feels smooth. These verses address the fear, weariness and uncertainty that show up once you have decided to begin again, and they remind you that God does not leave you to face those days alone.

Isaiah 40:31

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

(KJV)

Renewal in this verse comes from waiting on the Lord, not from sheer willpower. When you feel too tired to start, pause for two minutes of quiet and ask God for the strength you cannot produce on your own.

Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ…

(KJV)

Paul expresses confidence that God, who began a good work in his people, will finish it. This verse is especially helpful when your progress feels slow. Pick one small step today and trust that God is still working through it.

Psalm 30:5

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

(KJV)

This verse contrasts a night of weeping with a morning of joy. It does not promise that the hard season ends on your schedule, but it does say that it does not last forever. Let this shape how you talk to yourself at the end of a difficult day.

Verses for Rebuilding Trust in God

Many people starting over are also rebuilding their trust, either in God, in themselves, or in others. These passages speak to God’s steady character and his willingness to restore what has been broken.

Joel 2:25

And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.

(KJV)

God speaks here of restoring years that were eaten by locusts, a picture of loss followed by recovery. If you are grieving what was taken from you, this verse offers the hope that God can work even in lost ground. Name one area where you are waiting for restoration and bring it to him.

Psalm 40:2-3

2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. 3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it , and fear, and shall trust in the LORD .

(KJV)

The psalmist describes being lifted out of a miry pit and set on a firm place. The picture is one of rescue followed by stability. Recall one time God brought you through difficulty and let that memory strengthen your steps forward.

Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

(KJV)

Paul writes that God works all things together for good for those who love him. This does not mean every hard thing is good, but it means God can redeem what happened. Consider one past mistake and ask God what he might be doing with it now.

Hebrews 12:1

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us , and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…

(KJV)

The writer encourages believers to lay aside every weight and run with patience the race set before them. Starting over often means letting go of something that slows you down. Identify one weight you can set aside this week and do it deliberately.

Verses for Walking Forward One Day at a Time

A fresh start is built out of ordinary days. These verses point to God’s daily faithfulness and encourage you to take the next step rather than trying to see the whole road at once.

Lamentations 3:23

They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

(KJV)

The phrase “new every morning” is a reminder that God’s faithfulness is refreshed daily. Begin tomorrow by asking, before anything else, for the grace you need for that day alone.

Matthew 6:34

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

(KJV)

Jesus tells his listeners not to worry about tomorrow because each day has enough trouble of its own. When you feel overwhelmed by the whole project of starting over, narrow your focus to what is in front of you right now.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

(KJV)

This verse invites you to rejoice and be glad in the day the Lord has made. It does not ask you to feel happy about everything, only to receive the day as a gift. Choose one small thing about today that you can thank God for before you go to bed.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

(KJV)

Trusting the Lord with all your heart and acknowledging him in your ways is a practical way to start over. You are not asked to know the outcome, only to walk in his direction. Each time you make a decision this week, pause and ask God to direct it.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven…

(KJV)

The Teacher reminds us that there is a time for every purpose under heaven. A new beginning is not a failure of timing but a season of its own. Notice where you are in your current season and give yourself grace for where you are.

How to Use These Verses

Write a few of these verses on a card, in a notebook, or as a note on your phone, and keep them where you will see them in the morning. Reading one verse slowly before you check messages or start your day can set a steadier tone than a long list of plans. Many people find it helpful to choose one verse each week and return to it several times.

When you feel the old discouragement returning, read the verse aloud and then pray it back to God in your own words. You can also share one verse with a friend who is also trying to begin again, so that you can encourage each other. Let these words be an ongoing conversation with God rather than a checklist to complete.

A Short Prayer for Starting Over

Lord, I come to you today with the parts of my life that feel broken, unfinished or unclear. Thank you that your mercies are new every morning and that you are able to make something fresh out of what I have brought you. Give me the courage to take the next small step, even when I do not feel ready, and help me to let go of the things that keep me stuck in yesterday.

Be my strength when I am weary and my guide when I cannot see the road ahead. Remind me that you are at work in me, and help me to trust that you will finish what you have started. Amen.
