This prayer is for the end of the week, the Friday evening or Saturday morning when you are tired, the loose ends are still showing, and you want to hand the past seven days to God before the next ones begin. Pray it at the close of your workday, after dinner, or first thing on your day off. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Prayer for the End of the Week

Father, I come to you tired tonight. This week asked more of me than I had to give: the deadlines that ran late, the phone calls I dreaded, the conversations at home where I was short with the people I love. Some of it I handled well, and some of it I would take back if I could. I lay all of it down in front of you now. Forgive me for what I did wrong, and thank you for what held together when I could not hold it myself.

Lord, I also bring you what is still undone. The bills that need paying, the message I have not answered, the worry about my health or my child or my aging parent that followed me from Monday to Friday. You know every item on that list better than I do. Please show me what truly needs my attention next week and what I can set down until then. Give me the wisdom to tell the difference, and the grace to stop carrying what was never mine to carry.

So I ask you to rest me. Let this weekend be real rest, not just a pause before the next round. Steady my breathing and quiet my mind, and let me enjoy the people and the small pleasures in front of me without rushing to the next task. Be near to the ones who are hurting tonight, the ones I know and the ones I will never meet. Hold them, and hold me. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, the week is over and I am worn out. Take the things I could not finish and the things I got wrong, and forgive me for them. Thank you for carrying me through these days. Rest me now, and help me trust you with what comes next week. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Read this slowly at the end of the week and let the word “weary” name exactly how you feel. Then bring that weariness to Jesus as a plain request, not a polished one.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

Use this verse to quiet the replaying of the week. Pause, breathe, and let God’s sovereignty over the things you could not control settle your heart.

Psalm 23:1-3

1 The LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

(WEB)

Pray this as a picture of rest, asking the Shepherd to lead you into green places and restore your soul after a hard stretch of work.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Take this verse to God as a request for strength when your own reserves are empty. Ask him to give power where you have run dry.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Let this verse remind you that God’s mercies are new each morning. Pray it as hope for the coming week, not only relief from the last one.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when the week’s noise has actually stopped, such as Friday after the last email or Saturday before the house wakes up. Sit in a chair you find comfortable, keep a pen nearby, and consider writing down the two or three items that most want your attention so you can release them in the prayer. Holding a cup of tea or resting your hands open on your lap can help your body settle as you speak.

If you live with someone, invite them to pray it with you or to pray the blessing over you afterward. A spouse, a friend, or a small group can also keep you company in this prayer by praying the same words for you next week when you are tired again.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who kept you through this week keep you through the weekend and into the days ahead. May he bring you rest that reaches your heart, and may you wake on Monday knowing you are loved and held. The week is finished, and you are still his.
