A bedtime prayer for spiritual renewal is a way to hand the day back to God and ask him to restore what has been worn down: your attention, your faith, your sense of his nearness. You can pray it in bed, at the kitchen table after the dishes are done, or with a spouse or child before lights out. Read it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Bedtime Prayer for Spiritual Renewal

Father, the day is ending, and I bring you what it held. Some of it was good, and some of it wore me down: the rushed mornings, the words I wish I hadn’t said, the worry I kept picking up again and again. I am tired in a way that sleep alone does not fix. Renew my heart while I rest. Make me hungry for you again, and let the things that crowded out my prayer lose their grip on me tonight.

Thank you for the small mercies I almost missed: a kind word, a meal shared, a moment of quiet in the car. Forgive me for the places where I went through the day on my own strength and forgot that you were with me in every hour. Wash over the failures I carry into bed, and let me wake tomorrow with a clean page and a willing spirit. Guard my sleep, keep my family and the people I love under your care, and fill the dark hours with your peace.

I give you the next day before it arrives. Give me eyes to see you in it and the courage to return to you when I drift. Hold me as I close my eyes. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I am spent, and I need you to renew what I cannot restore myself. Forgive what I carried wrongly today, thank you for what held me up, and guard my sleep tonight. Let my heart be quiet before you, and wake me with a fresh desire to know you. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel used up. Thank God that his mercies have not run out, and that each new morning is a fresh gift of his faithfulness. Let that truth follow you into sleep.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

This verse is a bedtime prayer in its own right. Read it slowly, then tell God you are choosing to lie down in his safety rather than in your own anxious thoughts about tomorrow.

Psalm 51:10

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me.

(WEB)

David asks God to create a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit. Pray this for the parts of your inner life that feel dull or divided, and ask him to do the work only he can do.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

When your strength is gone, this promise points to the Lord as the source of renewed energy. Bring him your weariness honestly and ask him to lift you up as he has promised.

Romans 12:2

Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.

(WEB)

Renewal often means letting God reshape how you think, not just how you feel. Pray that your mind would be renewed so that your habits and desires slowly come into line with his good purposes.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time just before you turn off the light, when the house has gone quiet and there is nothing left to do. Sit on the edge of the bed or kneel beside it, and hold something in your hands, such as a worn Bible, a cup of tea gone cold, or the back of your own hand, to keep your attention from wandering. Pray slowly, pausing after each sentence to let it land.

If you share a home, you can read this prayer together with a spouse, a roommate, or a child who is old enough to join in. Take turns saying the lines, or let one person pray while the other listens. Ending the day in shared prayer makes it easier to carry the same renewal into the morning.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who keeps watch over sleepers keep you tonight, and may he renew your heart before the light returns. May his mercy meet you in the quiet, and may you wake to find his faithfulness waiting for you again.
