This list gives you Bible verses about God’s goodness, arranged by the moments when that truth is hardest to feel and most needed. It is for anyone who wants Scripture to shape how they see God on an ordinary day or a difficult one. Every verse here points to the same settled fact: God is good in His character, His promises and His faithfulness, whatever your circumstances look like.

Verses for the Morning When Nothing Feels Certain

Some mornings begin with a list of unknowns: a phone call you are dreading, a bill on the counter, a question no one can answer yet. These verses speak to that uncertainty by reminding you where God’s goodness is anchored, which is not in your circumstances but in who He is.

Psalm 34:8

Oh taste and see that the LORD is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

(WEB)

David invites you to taste before you decide what you think of God. Before you open your email, try speaking one sentence of thanks for something small and true about God’s kindness. Let that be the first taste of the day.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Lamentations was written from ruins, yet it names God’s mercies as new each morning. Write the words “new this morning” on a sticky note and place it where you will see it before you check your messages. Let it set the tone before the day sets its own.

Psalm 145:9

The LORD is good to all. His tender mercies are over all his works.

(WEB)

This verse says God’s goodness reaches to all He has made, not only to the people who seem to deserve it. When you see a stranger at the bus stop, remember that God’s care extends to them too, and pray a short blessing over them.

Verses for When Prayer Feels Unanswered

Waiting can make you doubt whether God is listening, let alone whether He is good. The passages in this group do not explain every delay, but they show that God’s goodness is not measured by how quickly He responds to your request.

Psalm 84:11

For the LORD God is a sun and a shield. The LORD will give grace and glory. He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly.

(WEB)

The psalmist calls God a sun and a shield, which means He gives light and protection even when He withholds what we want most. Ask yourself today what good thing God may be giving you in the present, even if the answer you hoped for is still delayed.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Paul writes that God works all things together for good for those who love Him, which does not mean everything is good in itself. Keep a brief list of unanswered prayers beside your Bible and review it weekly, noticing how God has been working even in the waiting.

James 1:17

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

(WEB)

James says every good gift comes from above, and that the Father does not change like shifting shadows. When a plan falls apart, name one good gift you have received this week and trace it back to the Father who gave it.

Verses for Evenings of Gratitude

When the day settles, these verses help you look back and recognize God’s goodness in what happened, including the ordinary mercies you may have missed while busy. They work well as a closing practice before sleep.

Psalm 107:1

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

(WEB)

This psalm opens with a simple command to give thanks because God is good and His love endures forever. Before you turn off the light, name three specific things from today and thank God for each one by name.

Psalm 136:1

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his loving kindness endures forever.

(WEB)

This psalm repeats the phrase about God’s enduring love in every line, teaching you to say the same truth over and over. Try reading one verse of it aloud each evening this week, letting the repetition sink in.

Exodus 34:6

The LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, “The LORD! The LORD, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth…

(WEB)

God describes Himself to Moses as merciful, gracious and abounding in steadfast love, and this is how He chose to be known. Write these descriptions on a card and read them slowly when you feel that God’s goodness is far away.

Psalm 27:13

I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

(WEB)

David says he would have lost heart if he had not believed he would see God’s goodness in the land of the living. Spend a minute tonight looking forward to one specific way you hope to see God’s goodness in tomorrow.

Nahum 1:7

The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knows those who take refuge in him.

(WEB)

Nahum says the Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of trouble, and that He knows those who take refuge in Him. Let this verse be the last thing you think about before you sleep, asking God to be your refuge through the night.

How to Use These Verses

Write a few of these verses on index cards and keep them in your bag, on your bathroom mirror or on your phone’s lock screen. Reading one card during a slow moment, such as waiting in line or sitting in traffic, turns a wasted minute into a small act of trust. Repetition matters more than volume, so one verse read carefully each day will serve you better than ten read in a hurry.

Pray these verses back to God rather than only reading them. Turn “God is good” into “Lord, You are good to me today,” and speak it aloud in your own words. Many people find it helps to pray one verse each morning, one each afternoon and one each night, so that God’s goodness becomes the shape of the day rather than an occasional thought.

A Short Prayer for God’s Goodness

Lord, You are good, and Your love endures forever. When I cannot see it, help me remember what You have already shown me, and let my memory of Your faithfulness steady my heart. Where I am waiting, teach me to trust that You are at work even when I do not understand how. Open my eyes to the small mercies You send each day, and let my thanks rise to You before I fall asleep. Hold the people I love and the people I worry about, and give them the same assurance I am asking for. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
