This page gives you Bible scriptures about money, grouped by the situations where money tends to press hardest: earning, spending, giving and worrying. It is written for Christians who want God’s word to speak into their bank balance, their paycheck and their everyday decisions. Taken together, these verses share one conviction: money is a tool entrusted to us by a generous God, and our hearts are meant to rest in him rather than in what we own.

Verses for Working Honestly and Faithfully

Work is where most of us earn our money, and Scripture treats it as a place to honor God as much as a place to be paid. The verses below speak to diligence, fair dealing and the dignity of an honest day’s labor.

Proverbs 14:23

In all hard work there is profit, but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.

(WEB)

Proverbs links steady, hands-on work with real gain and warns against empty talk. When you feel tempted to cut corners on a project or a shift, let this verse remind you that showing up and doing the task well is itself a form of worship.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Paul writes to people who labored under masters, and his point holds for any job today. Before your next task, offer it to the Lord by name, even if no one else notices the quality of your work.

Proverbs 11:1

A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but accurate weights are his delight.

(WEB)

God cares about fairness in commerce, not just in court. Check your invoices, your receipts and your promises this week, and make any correction that honesty requires, even when it costs you a little.

Ecclesiastes 5:12

The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep.

(WEB)

Qoheleth observes that sleep comes easily to the worker, while the rich are often kept awake by their wealth. Use this verse as a gentle check on overwork: set a stopping time each evening so that rest is protected, not sacrificed.

Verses for Spending, Saving and Contentment

Once money arrives, the question becomes where it goes. These verses address the pull toward buying more, comparing ourselves to others and building security on things that fade.

1 Timothy 6:6

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

(WEB)

Paul names contentment as a form of gain that no market can supply. When you find yourself scrolling for something new, pause and name one thing you already have that you are thankful for before you open the cart.

Hebrews 13:5

Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, “I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.”

(WEB)

The writer pairs a warning about the love of money with a promise that God will not leave us. Try writing this verse on a card in your wallet and reading it at the moment you feel anxious about the balance.

Proverbs 21:20

There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man swallows it up.

(WEB)

Wisdom in Proverbs is practical: the wise store up what they need, while the foolish spend it all. Make a simple monthly plan that sets aside something for future needs, and treat it as an act of stewardship rather than fear.

Matthew 6:19-21

19 “Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal; 21 for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

(WEB)

Jesus asks where our treasure really lives, because the heart follows the treasure. Notice this week which purchases give you lasting joy and which only give a passing lift, and let that noticing shape your choices.

Philippians 4:11-12

11 Not that I speak because of lack, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it. 12 I know how to be humbled, and I know also how to abound. In everything and in all things I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need.

(WEB)

Paul writes from experience of both plenty and want, and he says he has learned the secret of contentment. Ask God to teach you that same secret in a season where you have less than you would like.

Verses for Giving Generously

Scripture does not treat giving as an optional extra for the wealthy. The verses here invite you to generosity that flows from gratitude and trust, whatever your income.

2 Corinthians 9:7

Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart; not grudgingly, or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver.

(WEB)

Paul asks for cheerful giving, not reluctant giving under pressure. Before you give this month, pray over the amount and the reason, and let joy rather than guilt decide the number.

Proverbs 3:9-10

9 Honor the LORD with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase: 10 so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.

(WEB)

Honoring the Lord with the firstfruits of your income is an act of trust that God provides for what remains. Consider setting aside the first portion of each paycheck for giving before any other bills are paid.

Acts 20:35

In all things I gave you an example, that so laboring you ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

(WEB)

Paul recalls a saying of Jesus that giving brings a blessing greater than receiving. Look for one small, unseen gift this week, such as paying for a coffee or sending a note with a check, and notice how it changes your own heart.

Luke 6:38

“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be given to you. For with the same measure you measure it will be measured back to you.”

(WEB)

Jesus describes generosity as a measure that returns to the giver. Keep this verse in mind when you give, and remember that the reward Jesus describes is ultimately God’s faithfulness, not a guaranteed financial return.

Deuteronomy 15:10

You shall surely give, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him; because that for this thing the LORD your God will bless you in all your work, and in all that you put your hand to.

(WEB)

Moses instructs Israel to give freely to the poor without a grudging heart, promising that God will bless their work. Identify one person in your own community with a practical need and decide how you will help them this month.

Verses for Trusting God in Financial Worry

Money anxiety can keep us awake at night and distract us from prayer. These verses turn the worry toward a God who sees, provides and calls us to bring our needs to him.

Matthew 6:33

But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.

(WEB)

Jesus tells his listeners to seek the kingdom first and promises that their needs will be added to them. When a bill frightens you, pause and ask what it would look like to seek God’s kingdom in the next hour.

Philippians 4:19

My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul promises that God will supply every need according to his riches in glory. Name your specific financial need aloud in prayer, then trust God to be faithful in his own timing and way.

Psalm 37:25

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread.

(WEB)

The psalmist reflects on a lifetime of seeing the righteous not forsaken. Recall one specific time God provided for you or someone you know, and let that memory steady you for the present concern.

Matthew 6:26

See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they?

(WEB)

Jesus points to the birds of the air, fed by a Father who knows them. Step outside for a few minutes this week, look at something God made, and let that sight loosen the grip of your worry.

How to Use These Verses

Write three or four of these verses on index cards or in a notes app you open often. Put one where you pay bills, one where you plan the week, and one near your giving envelope or donation app, so that money decisions meet God’s word at the point of choice.

Pray a verse back to God rather than only reading it. Choose one passage each week, read it slowly twice, and then ask God how it applies to a specific purchase, job decision or gift you are weighing.

A Short Prayer About Money

Lord, you are the giver of every good gift, and everything I have comes from your hand. Forgive me for the times I have trusted money to keep me safe, and for the times I have grasped at more than I need. Teach me to work with integrity, to spend with wisdom and to give with a cheerful heart. When worry rises, remind me that you see my needs and that you are faithful. Shape my heart so that I rest in you more than in what I own. Amen.
