This list gives you Bible verses for moving forward, whether you are leaving a loss behind, starting a new season, or simply trying to take the next step when the last one felt heavy. Each section groups verses by a real situation, with a short reflection on how the words might shape your day. These verses share a common thread: God does not leave people standing still in the past, and he invites them to keep walking toward what he has prepared.

Verses for the Morning You Are Not Sure You Can Begin

Some mornings the hardest part is simply getting up and facing the day ahead. These verses speak to that moment, when the future feels blurry and your energy is low. Read them before you check your phone, and let them set the direction for the hours to come.

Philippians 3:13-14

13 Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do. Forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul speaks here of leaving behind what is past and pressing toward what lies ahead. Try writing the one thing you are leaving behind on a small card, then placing the card in a drawer. The act is a quiet way of saying you are choosing the next step instead of the old story.

Isaiah 43:18-19

18 “Don’t remember the former things, and don’t consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

(WEB)

God calls his people to stop dwelling on former things because he is already doing something new. When you notice yourself replaying an old mistake, pause and name one small new thing you can do today, even if it is only a short walk or a phone call you have been putting off.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

These verses were written by someone grieving the fall of Jerusalem, yet they turn toward the faithfulness of God that is new every morning. Tell yourself this at the sink or in the car: today’s mercy is fresh, even if yesterday’s was hard. That small reminder can make the first task feel lighter.

Verses for When the Road Ahead Feels Uncertain

Moving forward often means stepping into territory you cannot yet see. The verses in this group address the anxiety of not knowing what comes next. They remind you that guidance is usually given one step at a time, not as a complete map.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Trusting God with your plans means admitting that your own understanding has limits. Before a decision, spend a minute naming the options you are weighing, then ask God to direct the path. Afterward, watch for the next open door rather than demanding the whole route at once.

Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this…

(WEB)

Committing your way to the Lord is an active choice, the way you might hand a set of keys to someone you trust. Practice this by writing one worry on paper and then physically setting it aside. Returning to that step each time anxiety rises builds a steady habit of trust.

Isaiah 30:21

And when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.”

(WEB)

This verse promises a voice that says, “This is the way; walk in it,” whether you turn to the right or the left. When you feel stuck between two options, take the next small faithful action and listen for confirmation. Guidance often arrives as movement, not as a sudden certainty.

Verses for Rebuilding After a Setback

Forward motion is not only about new ventures; it is also about getting back up after a failure, a loss, or a season of exhaustion. These verses honor the slow work of recovery and the God who restores what has been broken.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Paul does not say every painful event is good, but he affirms that God works through all things for the good of those who love him. When a setback stings, try asking one question each day: where might God be at work even here? Writing your answers in a journal can reveal patterns you would otherwise miss.

Joel 2:25

I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I sent among you.

(WEB)

God speaks of restoring years that the locusts have eaten, a picture of loss that is not the final word. If you are rebuilding finances, health, or relationships, set one realistic goal for this week and celebrate its completion. Small restorations add up over time.

2 Corinthians 4:16

Therefore we don’t faint, but though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day.

(WEB)

Paul contrasts the wasting away of the body with the daily renewal of the inner person. On days when your body or spirit feels worn thin, pause for a brief prayer of thanks for one thing that is still growing in you. Renewal is often quiet and easy to overlook.

Verses for Stepping Into Something New

Some forward steps are exciting: a new job, a move, a new chapter of faith or service. These verses encourage courage and remind you that the one who sends you goes with you.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

God’s command to Joshua to be strong and courageous came as he prepared to lead Israel into an unfamiliar land. Before a first day in a new role, read this verse aloud and name one fear you are bringing into the room. Speaking the fear out loud often loosens its grip.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

This promise of God’s presence and strength speaks directly to the person who feels small in front of a large task. When you feel overwhelmed, take three slow breaths and repeat the core promise in your own words. Then take the next single action on your list.

Matthew 28:20

Teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

(WEB)

Jesus closes his commission to the disciples with a promise to be with them always. When you go somewhere new, whether a classroom, a hospital ward, or a church plant, remember that you do not go alone. Pray a simple greeting to Jesus before you walk through the door.

How to Use These Verses

Choose two or three verses that fit your current season and write them where you will see them daily, such as on a bathroom mirror, the dashboard, or the first page of a notebook. Reading them slowly at the same time each day, perhaps with your morning coffee, helps the words become familiar rather than occasional. Revisit the reflections when you feel stuck, and let the verses guide the next small step rather than the whole journey.

When you pray with these verses, read the passage aloud, then pause and ask God what part of it speaks to your present situation. Name one concrete action you will take in response, and tell God about it. Returning to the same verses over several weeks can show you how God has been moving alongside you, even when progress felt invisible.

A Short Prayer for Moving Forward

Lord, you see the places where I am stuck, the memories that pull me backward, and the uncertainty about what comes next. Thank you that your mercies are new each morning and that you are already at work in the things I cannot yet see. Give me the courage to take the next faithful step, even if it is small, and help me release what I need to leave behind. Walk with me through each day, and guide my steps as I follow you into what you have prepared. Amen.
