This list gives you Bible verses to read before an exam, grouped by the moments that tend to hit hardest: the night before, the walk into the room, and the wait for results. It is written for students, test-takers and anyone facing a high-stakes assessment who wants steadiness rather than pressure. These verses share one thread: God is present in the room with you, and your worth does not rise or fall with a score.

Verses for the Night Before the Test

Sleep is often the first thing anxiety steals. These verses speak to a mind that keeps replaying what it has not yet mastered, and they point you toward rest rather than one more hour of cramming.

Psalm 4:8

In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.

(WEB)

David says he can lie down and sleep because the Lord keeps him safe. Before your exam, close the notes, set the alarm, and pray this verse as you turn off the light. Trust the preparation you have already done.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul gives a plan for worry: bring each request to God with thanksgiving. Write your specific fears on a sheet of paper, pray over the list, and then set the paper aside so your mind has permission to stop chasing them.

Isaiah 26:3

You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.

(WEB)

Peace in this verse comes from a mind fixed on God, not from a mind that has solved every problem. Repeat the verse slowly as you lie down, letting each phrase slow your breathing.

Verses for the Morning of the Exam

Morning brings adrenaline, rushed breakfasts and last-minute doubts. These verses help you start the day by placing your effort in God’s hands before you walk through the door.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Paul asks people to work as serving the Lord rather than only pleasing people. Before you leave the house, decide that you will give this exam your honest best and let the result belong to God.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

This passage calls you to trust the Lord instead of leaning only on your own understanding. When a question looks unfamiliar, pause for a breath and ask God to guide your reasoning step by step.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous because the Lord goes with him. Say this verse aloud in the car or on the bus, and let it remind you that you do not walk into the room alone.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

(WEB)

David names his fear and then chooses trust in the same breath. When fear rises in the hallway, name it honestly, then answer it with the words of this verse.

Verses for Focus and Clear Thinking During the Exam

Once the paper is in front of you, the goal shifts from calm to clarity. These verses ask for wisdom, patience and the ability to think without being swept along by panic.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

James promises that God gives wisdom generously to those who ask. Pray this short request before you begin, and again whenever a problem stalls you.

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.

(WEB)

The psalmist describes God’s word as a lamp for the feet. Use this image to steady yourself: take the next step you can see clearly, and do not try to light up the entire path at once.

Ecclesiastes 9:10

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor plan, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you are going.

(WEB)

The Preacher urges people to do with their might whatever their hand finds to do. Pour your attention into the question in front of you rather than the ones you have already passed.

Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this…

(WEB)

This verse invites you to commit your way to the Lord and trust him to act. When you finish, hand the paper over with open hands, trusting God with whatever comes next.

Verses for Waiting on Results

The hardest stretch can come after the exam, when nothing is left to do but wait. These verses help you hold your hope steady while you hear back.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Paul writes that God works all things together for good for those who love him. Remember that this promise is about God’s faithfulness, not a guaranteed grade, and let it shape how you wait.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Even in grief, the writer remembers that God’s mercies are new every morning. On days when the wait feels long, read these words as a reminder that each day brings fresh grace.

Micah 7:7

But as for me, I will look to the LORD. I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.

(WEB)

Micah says he will wait for God and watch for his answer. Practice that posture: keep busy with ordinary good things while you watch for news, and trust that God is attentive to you.

Psalm 27:14

Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.

(WEB)

This verse calls for waiting with courage and a strong heart. Name one small, faithful action you can take each day while you wait, and do it as an act of trust.

How to Use These Verses

Write two or three of these verses on an index card and keep it in your pencil case, your bag or your phone’s lock screen. Reading a card during a short break is far more practical than trying to recall a whole passage under pressure. Choose the verses that match where you are in the process, and rotate them as your needs change.

Pray the verses rather than only reading them. Turn each one into a sentence addressed to God, asking him for the specific thing it describes, such as rest, courage or wisdom. Pray them in the car, at the desk, or just before you close your eyes, and let the habit build over the days leading up to the exam.

A Short Prayer for Before an Exam

Lord, you know what this exam means to me and how much I have worked to prepare. I bring you the pressure I feel and the questions I cannot yet answer. Calm my heart and steady my thinking, so I can focus on the work in front of me. Help me to remember that my worth rests in you and not in a number on a page. Give me wisdom to think clearly, patience with myself when I struggle, and peace when I leave the room. Whatever the outcome, let me trust that you are with me. Amen.
