If you are looking for Bible verses to start your day, this list gives you short passages to read, reflect on and carry with you before the first demands of the morning arrive. It is written for Christians who want to begin with God rather than with their phones, their inboxes or their worries. Each group below answers a different kind of morning, from quiet early hours to the ones that already feel heavy before the coffee is ready.

What these verses share is a simple movement: they turn your attention toward God’s faithfulness first, and then let that truth shape how you meet the day. Some are prayers, some are promises and some are commands to trust. Read them slowly, and let one stay with you.

Verses for Mornings When You Wake Up Tired

Some mornings you open your eyes already depleted, with the day stretched out ahead like a long road. These verses speak to strength that is not your own and to a Father who does not sleep or grow weary.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

This verse reminds you that waiting on the Lord is itself a source of renewal. Before you reach for the first task, sit for two minutes and name one thing you cannot carry alone, then ask God to be your strength for that.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Written by someone in deep grief, these lines still announce that God’s mercies begin again each morning. Write “new every morning” on a sticky note and place it where your eyes land when you first stand up.

Psalm 5:3

The LORD, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.

(WEB)

The psalmist speaks of bringing his requests to God early and watching for an answer. Try speaking your first honest sentence to God before you check your messages, even if it is only “Lord, I am tired.”

Verses for the Morning Before a Hard Day

Some mornings you already know what the day will hold: a difficult conversation, a medical appointment, a deadline that feels impossible. These passages ask you to hand over the outcome and walk forward with steady courage.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

In the middle of a noisy, unsettled day, this verse invites you to stop and recognize who is in charge. Take one slow breath before your first meeting and repeat the phrase “be still” silently as you exhale.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

God gave Joshua this command as he faced an uncertain future. Before you leave the house, say the words of this verse out loud to yourself and then name the one situation you are most afraid of today.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul shows that anxiety can be brought to God in prayer, with thanksgiving. Make a short list of the worries you carry into the day, then turn each one into a brief prayer as you walk to the car or wait for the kettle to boil.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Jesus tells his listeners that each day has enough trouble of its own without borrowing tomorrow’s. Plan only the first three tasks of your day, and leave the rest in God’s hands until you reach them.

Verses for a Quiet Morning with God

Some mornings are gentle, and you have time to sit with Scripture and let it settle into your heart. These verses are for those unhurried moments, when the goal is simply to know God better.

Psalm 63:1

God, you are my God. I will earnestly seek you. My soul thirsts for you. My flesh longs for you, in a dry and weary land, where there is no water.

(WEB)

David writes this psalm from a desert, longing for God’s presence. Read it aloud before anything else, and let the image of thirst remind you why you came to God in the first place.

Psalm 143:8

Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning, for I trust in you. Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to you.

(WEB)

This verse asks God to let the morning bring news of his steadfast love. Pray the words back to God as your own request, adding the specific way you hope to see his love today.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

(WEB)

The psalmist calls the day one the Lord has made and invites rejoicing. Name one ordinary gift waiting for you today, such as a warm drink, a familiar voice or a working car, and thank God for it before you leave your room.

Verses for Starting Your Day With Purpose

Some mornings you want your work, your family and your service to carry meaning beyond the task list. These verses tie daily effort to the God who calls you and sustains you.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Paul tells believers to work wholeheartedly, as serving the Lord rather than people alone. Before you begin your first task, ask God to let this work become an act of worship, even if no one notices.

Micah 6:8

He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

(WEB)

Micah sums up what God requires: justice, mercy and humble walking with him. Choose one person you will treat with fairness or kindness today, and let that choice be your small way of living this verse.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

This proverb asks you to trust God rather than rely only on your own understanding. Write down one decision you are facing today and ask God to guide your steps through it before you make the call.

Lamentations 3:24

“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul. “Therefore I will hope in him.”

(WEB)

The same chapter that brings grief also speaks of finding hope in the Lord as your portion. Tell God one thing you are hoping he will give you through the day, and watch for it as the hours unfold.

Romans 12:12

Rejoicing in hope; enduring in troubles; continuing steadfastly in prayer…

(WEB)

Paul lists rejoicing in hope, patience in tribulation and faithfulness in prayer. Choose one of these three qualities to practice first thing today and notice where it helps you respond to the day.

How to Use These Verses Each Morning

Keep your favorite few verses somewhere you will see them before your phone: on a card by the bed, in the notes app you open first, or written on the inside of a planner. Reading the same passage for a week often reveals more than reading fifteen different ones once. Some people find it helpful to read a verse aloud, then copy one line into a journal and reflect on it over a cup of coffee.

Pray the verses rather than only reading them. Turn a promise into a request, a command into a confession, or a psalm of praise into your own thanks. Ending your time with one sentence of gratitude helps the verse follow you into the day.

A Short Prayer for Starting Your Day

Lord, I come to you before the noise of this day begins. You made this morning, and you know every task, conversation and worry that waits for me. Give me the steady trust of the psalmist and the patient faith of Paul. Where I feel weak, be my strength, and where I feel anxious, be my peace. Let my work this day honor you, and let my kindness reflect your mercy. Thank you that your compassions are new every morning, and that you are already at work in the hours ahead of me. Help me walk with you from the first step to the last. Amen.
