This prayer is for anyone who wants to mark Pentecost by asking God for blessings: the Holy Spirit’s presence, courage to speak and act in faith, and unity with other believers. It can be prayed on Pentecost Sunday itself, in the days leading up to it, or on any morning when you want to ask God to fill your life with his Spirit. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where they fit better.
Blessings for Pentecost
Father, on this day we remember how your Spirit came upon the believers gathered in Jerusalem, and how they went out changed and unafraid. We come asking for that same Spirit to rest on us. Fill the rooms we walk into this week, the kitchen tables, the work meetings, the quiet car rides, with your presence. Where we feel tired or doubtful, give us the courage to keep going and the words to speak when speaking is hard.
Bless the people we love who do not yet know you, and open their hearts to hear your voice. Bless the church family we belong to, that we would be of one mind in love even when we disagree. Teach us to listen for your leading in small things as well as large ones, and make us generous with what you have given us. Let the fire of your Spirit burn in us steadily, not just on a holy day but in every ordinary hour. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Holy Spirit, come and fill me again today. Give me courage where I feel afraid, patience where I feel stretched, and clear words when I need to speak about you. Bind me closer to the people around me in love, and let your blessing reach the ones I am thinking of right now. Thank you that you are with me in this moment. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer first thing in the morning, before the phone and the day’s demands take over. Sit in a chair you can stay in for a few minutes, with a Bible or a card that has Acts 2 written on it nearby. Read the main prayer slowly, pausing after each sentence to let the request sink in. If Pentecost falls on a Sunday, you might pray it again during worship or while you walk home from church.
You can also pray this prayer with someone else. A spouse, a close friend, or a small group can take turns reading the paragraphs aloud, and each person can add a name or a need at the end. Keeping the prayer in a notebook or on a phone note gives you something to return to on the days when your own words run dry.
A Blessing to Close
May the Holy Spirit fill you with courage, peace, and a steady joy that does not depend on the day’s events. May God’s Spirit go before you into every room, every conversation, and every choice, and may you know that you are loved and not alone.
