This list gives single mothers a set of daily Bible verses to read, remember and pray through the ordinary demands of raising children alone. Each entry pairs a verse with a short reflection and one practical way to carry it through the day. The verses share a common thread: God sees the weary parent, provides strength beyond our own, and remains faithful when the load feels too heavy to carry.

Verses for the Early Morning Rush

The day often starts before you feel ready, with lunches to pack, shoes to find and a schedule that leaves no slack. These verses are meant for the first few minutes, before the house wakes up, when a short word of trust can set the tone for everything that follows.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

This passage was written by someone who had seen great loss, yet it names God’s mercy as new every morning. Before you get out of bed, say one of these lines aloud. Then let the first task of the day, whatever it is, be a small act of thanks for a mercy you can already see.

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

When you are the only adult at home, it is easy to feel that everything rests on you alone. This verse points to God as a refuge who is always near, not only in emergencies. Keep it on a note in your kitchen so your eyes land on it while the kettle boils.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes God giving strength to the weary and power to those who have none. Single mothers often run on empty before noon. Name the specific tiredness you feel, then ask God for the strength you need for the next hour, not the whole week.

Verses for Hard Days and Hard Decisions

Some days bring a sick child, an unexpected bill or a decision with no clear right answer. The verses in this section speak to moments when wisdom and courage are in short supply and you need to remember who holds the outcome.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

James promises that God gives wisdom generously to anyone who asks. When you face a choice about school, work or money and no one else is available to advise you, ask plainly. Then write down the first clear step that comes to mind and take it before the day ends.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

This familiar passage calls for trust that does not depend on having every answer. Single parents often must decide without a second opinion at home. Practice this by telling God one decision you are facing, and then acting on the next small step without rehearsing every possible outcome.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul moves from worry to prayer, and from prayer to a peace that guards the heart. When anxiety about rent or childcare begins to climb, pause and turn each concern into a short, specific request. Notice how the list shrinks once it has been spoken to God.

Psalm 121:1-2

1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

(WEB)

The psalmist lifts his eyes to the hills and remembers where his help comes from. Lifting your eyes is a small physical act that helps interrupt a spiral of frustration. Step outside for a minute, look up, and say the words of this psalm before going back inside.

Verses for Evenings and Quiet Moments

When the children are asleep and the house finally settles, many single mothers face the weight of the day alone. These verses offer comfort and rest for the hours after the chores are done and the emotional energy has run out.

Matthew 11:28-29

28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

(WEB)

Jesus invites the weary and burdened to come to him and find rest. Evening is the natural time to accept that invitation. Sit down, set aside the to-do list for a few minutes, and let the words of this passage remind you that you do not have to carry everything by yourself.

Psalm 127:2

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

(WEB)

This psalm says God gives sleep to those he loves, and that work done in anxiety does not earn rest. If you lie awake replaying the day, read this verse slowly and release the tasks you could not finish. Rest is a gift God offers, not a reward you must earn.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses tells the people to be strong and courageous because the Lord goes with them and will not leave them. Single parents often feel the absence of a partner most sharply at night. Let this promise settle over the quiet house as you close your eyes.

Psalm 23:1-3

1 The LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

(WEB)

The shepherd psalm pictures God leading his sheep to green pastures and still waters. End the evening by picturing yourself and your children resting in that same care. Choose one image from these verses and hold it in mind until sleep comes.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Paul lists the things that cannot separate believers from God’s love, from death to hardship. On a night when the day felt unbearable, say this passage slowly. Then name one fear you carried into the evening and remind yourself that it has no power to remove you from that love.

How to Use These Verses

Write a few of these verses on index cards or a note on your phone, and place them where your day already passes: the bathroom mirror, the fridge, the car visor. Choose one verse each morning and read it before checking messages. Repetition over several weeks will do more than trying to memorize the whole list at once.

Pray the verses instead of only reading them. Turn each one into a sentence addressed to God, using your own words about your own children and circumstances. When you miss a day, simply begin again the next morning without guilt, since these verses describe a faithfulness that does not depend on your perfect consistency.

A Short Prayer for Single Mothers

Lord, you see the parent who is awake before the sun and asleep long after the house is quiet. You know the bills I worry about, the questions my children ask, and the loneliness that comes with carrying every decision alone. Give me the strength you promise to the weary, and the wisdom you give generously to those who ask. Keep my children safe and let them see your faithfulness through me. When I cannot do one more thing, remind me that you are near and that your mercies are new each morning. Amen.
