When you feel rejected, these verses give you lasting encouragement from God’s word, collected for the moments when someone has turned away, left you out, or made you feel unwanted. They are written for anyone carrying the sting of being overlooked, dismissed, or set aside. Each group below speaks to a different part of that ache, from the morning dread to the lonely night.

Verses for the Morning Before a Hard Day

Some rejection arrives before you have even left the house, in a text not answered or a seat left empty. These verses are meant to be read while the coffee is still hot, before the day has a chance to press in.

Psalm 27:10

When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

(WEB)

David names a painful truth here: even parents may walk away. Read this slowly and let it sink in that your worth does not depend on who stays. Before you check your phone, say the first line out loud as a way of placing your day in God’s hands.

Isaiah 49:15-16

15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, these may forget, yet I will not forget you! 16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands. your walls are continually before me.

(WEB)

God uses the most tender image a mother knows to describe His faithfulness. When you feel forgotten, picture your name written on the palms of His hands. Let that picture be the first thing you look at when a familiar ache starts to rise.

Verses for When Friends Pull Away

Rejection from friends can feel like losing ground you thought was firm. The verses here speak to the quiet grief of being left out of plans, conversations, or the circle you once belonged to.

John 15:18-19

18 If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

(WEB)

Jesus tells His followers plainly that the world may turn against them. This is not a reason to think you have failed, but a reminder that being unwelcome is sometimes the cost of faithfulness. Write these verses on a card and keep it in your wallet for the next time you feel the cold shoulder.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Paul lists nearly every force that could separate a person from God and concludes that none of them can. When a friendship ends or someone stops calling, read this passage aloud and name the people who have hurt you. Then name the one love that has not changed.

Psalm 55:12-14

12 For it was not an enemy who insulted me, then I could have endured it. Neither was it he who hated me who raised himself up against me, then I would have hidden myself from him. 13 But it was you, a man like me, my companion, and my familiar friend. 14 We took sweet fellowship together. We walked in God’s house with company.

(WEB)

David grieves a companion who turned on him, and he does not pretend it didn’t hurt. Rejection by someone you trusted is a real loss, and God is not offended by your sorrow. Use this passage as a way to bring your grief honestly to God rather than burying it.

Verses for the Lonely Evening

Evenings can make rejection feel heavier, when the house is quiet and the memories grow loud. These verses are for those hours when you need to be reminded that you are not forgotten by the One who sees you in the dark.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

The Lord draws near to those whose hearts are broken, and this promise describes God’s nearness rather than a quick fix. Before you turn off the light, imagine Him sitting close to you in the quiet. Let that nearness be enough for tonight.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses speaks these words to a nation facing an uncertain future, and they remain steady when others leave. When rejection makes you feel abandoned, remember that the Lord has promised not to leave you. Repeat the phrase “He will not fail me” as you fall asleep.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

This verse describes God as the One who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Healing often takes longer than we want, but the promise is that God is actively involved in mending what others have damaged. Ask Him tonight to begin with one wound you can name.

Verses to Stand On in Lasting Seasons

Some rejection stretches over months or even years, and it can wear down the soul. These verses speak to the long road, reminding you that God’s purposes and faithfulness outlast any single season of being set aside.

Isaiah 54:4-5

4 “Don’t be afraid; for you will not be ashamed. Don’t be confounded; for you will not be disappointed. For you will forget the shame of your youth; and the reproach of your widowhood you shall remember no more. 5 For your Maker is your husband; The LORD of Armies is his name. The Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer. He will be called the God of the whole earth.

(WEB)

God speaks to a people who felt forsaken and promises that their shame will be forgotten. When rejection feels like a permanent label, these words call you to remember who your Maker is and what He has called you. Consider writing your name into the verse as a personal reminder.

1 Peter 2:4

Coming to him, a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God, precious.

(WEB)

Peter writes that Jesus was rejected by people yet chosen and precious to God. Your rejection can be placed alongside His, which is a mark of solidarity rather than shame. Read this verse when you feel invisible and remind yourself that God values what people overlook.

Psalm 18:16-19

16 He sent from on high. He took me. He drew me out of many waters. 17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me; for they were too mighty for me. 18 They came on me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support. 19 He brought me out also into a large place. He delivered me, because he delighted in me.

(WEB)

David describes being drawn out of deep waters and placed in a broad place. Long seasons of rejection can feel like drowning, but this passage pictures God reaching down to rescue. Keep it nearby on the hard days and pray it back to Him in your own words.

Romans 5:3-5

3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: 5 and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

(WEB)

Paul shows how suffering can produce endurance, character, and hope. This does not mean that rejection is good, but that God can work even painful seasons into something that strengthens you. Ask Him this week where He might be shaping you through this.

How to Use These Verses

Write a few of these verses on index cards and place them where you will see them during moments of rejection, such as the bathroom mirror, the car dashboard, or beside your bed. Choose two or three to memorize so you can recall them when you are away from a page. Reading them slowly, one line at a time, helps the words move from your head into your heart.

Pray the verses back to God instead of only reading them. Turn “I have been rejected” into “Lord, You are my refuge,” and let each verse shape the words you bring to Him. Return to the same few passages for a season, since familiar words often comfort more deeply than new ones.

A Short Prayer for When You Feel Rejected

Lord, I feel set aside today, and the hurt is real. Thank You that You see me when others look away, and that You have never stopped knowing my name. Heal the places where I have been wounded, and help me to hear Your voice above the voices that have turned from me. Hold me close tonight and remind me that my worth rests in You alone. Amen.
