An evening prayer for spiritual renewal gives you words to bring the day before God and ask him to restore what has grown dry, weary or distracted. Pray it at the end of the day, once the house is quiet or just before you turn out the light. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where they fit more closely.
Evening Prayer for Spiritual Renewal
Lord, the day is ending, and I bring it to you as it is. Some of it went well, and some of it I would like back. I rushed past you in the mornings, I felt irritable when I should have been patient, and I reached for my phone when I should have been still. Forgive me where I drifted, and thank you that your mercy is not used up by my failures. Renew the part of me that has grown tired and thin, the part that wants to believe you are near but has struggled to feel it.
Refresh my desire for you tonight. Let my heart settle the way a field settles after rain, quiet and soaked through. Where I have been running on habit alone, give me a fresh hunger for your word and for your presence. Show me one small place tomorrow where I can meet you again, and give me the courage to go there. I release my worries about work, money, my family and the people I love into your hands, and I ask you to guard my sleep and my soul through the night. Thank you for being faithful when I am not. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I am worn out and my spirit feels dull tonight. Forgive my distractions and my coldness today. Renew my heart the way the morning returns after a long night. Settle my thoughts, help me rest in your care, and give me a clearer longing for you when I wake. Keep me safe until the light comes. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a time after the day’s last real task, perhaps after you have washed up or before you climb into bed. Sit in a chair with a lamp on rather than a bright overhead light, and keep your phone out of reach. You may find it helpful to open your hands on your lap as you pray, as a way of setting the day down. If you are married, living with others or praying for someone, read the prayer together and let each person add one sentence of their own.
Some evenings the words will feel heavy or the mind will wander. That is normal, and it does not mean the prayer has failed. Read one line, pause, and let God meet you there. If sleep comes while you are still praying, you have not missed anything, because God hears you at every stage of the night.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who keeps watch over your sleep refresh your spirit before the morning comes. May his peace settle over your thoughts, his mercy cover what you could not carry, and his faithfulness steady you for the day ahead. Rest well, knowing you are held.
